MARIETTA, Georgia — You go girl!
In case you don’t know 99-year-old Edna McClinton Wise, allow her to introduce herself.
For starters Wise is a proud native of Chester, South Carolina and, if the Lord’s will, she will celebrate one full century of life on February 4, 2018.
Born in 1918, attending church has always been virtually a customary trend for Wise, who had become a fixture at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Today, more than ever before, Wise’s notable contributions to the Body of Christ have been nothing short of remarkable and immeasurable.
And because of the impressive impact she’s had as a devout woman of faith, Pastor Matthew Brown, TH.D. and his Greater Community Church of God In Christ congregation will acknowledge Wise for her well-publicized and influential impact to her church and community when she is recognized as one of two beneficiaries for the Bishop James J. Hinsley Lifetime Achievement Honor during Greater Community COGIC’s Gala on Friday, September 22, during which the church will pay homage to Matthew Brown, TH.D for six years as its Senior Pastor.
Described as a “Living Legend” honor that was organized by Brown, who installed as GCC’s Pastor in October 2011, the Bishop James J. Hinsley Lifetime Achievement Honor was established in recognition of the older Saints who have gone to great lengths in giving their life for the benefit of the church.
For Wise, her keen reputation is such that she is armed with an array of wisdom, a trend that has been appropriately embraced and graciously admired by many throughout the Body of Christ.
WHAT ABOUT GREATER? http://www.greatercommunitycogic.org/
Having married Flay Wise on August 13, 1938, the couple’s covenant lasted 62 years until her husband’s death in 2000. She and her husband had five children, two of whom are deceased.
Interesting, Wise relocated from South Carolina to Georgia in December 1941, during which World War II was on the brink of taking place amid the Japan’s gruesome attack on Pearl Harbor.
Consequently, she attended Cole Street Baptist Church before ultimately joining nearby Avery Street COGIC in 1951 under the leadership of the late Bishop Hinsley, during which a “funny moment” was brought to her attention.
According to a few eyewitnesses, Wise’s husband was spotted at church shouting, a development that caught her by surprise.
So much, in fact, and she wanted to see it all for herself.
“Once she saw it, she felt the spirit and began to shout,” one eyewitness recalled.
And from that point on, Wise has been steadfastly running for Christ ever since, most notably within the historic walls of GCC.
Interesting, she has 14 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren and, if that isn’t enough to turn heads as she approaches 100 years old, Wise is widely known as an “energetic” individual who prefers to take regular walks over taking a rides any day.
How clever for a 99-year-old, big-hearted and beloved woman who didn’t call it career until she had reached 90 years old.
Talk about a remarkable introduction as she nears one century of life.
