Jozlynn Callo can be appropriately described as a number of superlatives.
A distinctly unique woman of many hats should undoubtedly top the list.
For starters, Callo, a native of New Orleans, is widely known as an accomplished author, recording artist, as well as owner of a New Orleans-area community-based radio station.
Now for arguably the most intriguing fact concerning this resourceful and progressive businesswoman.
Callo is the proud founder of NolaFreeVoice, a New Orleans-area non-profit corporation she established in August 2016.
Currently a resident of Chalmette, Louisiana — a town that is comprised of roughly 17,119 according to the latest U. S. census and is a part of the New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner Metropolitan statistical area — Callo’s NolaFreeVoice is centered largely on empowerment of the creative arts community through various programs, projects, and fundraising events.

Moreover, she acknowledged, amongst the reason NolaFreeVoice was established is to form an alliance, of sorts, by way of the creative arts community, as well as the venues and entities that support them in what Callo deems a transparent and moral integrity.
“In turn, we aid them in relieving musical exploitation of our members,” Callo told Making Headline News during a weekend interview. “The connection that has been forged with all of the uniquely talented individuals has become very valuable members of our non-profit corporation. However we do not discriminate against any manner of diversity. After all, diversity is what music and art are made of.”
Since its inception, NolaFreeVoice has become a fixture throughout a majority of Louisiana and in some parts of Southwest Texas.
Interestingly, it seemed that adopting a passion for music and entertainment was practically birthed in Callo, considering her parents and grandparents were musically-inclined, both vocally and instrumentally, all the while displaying a solid faith walk in the process.
“Music has always been a positive energy source in my life,” Callo, a 1996 graduate of Alcee Fortier High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Phoenix with a degree in Criminal Justice. “As I grew older, I began to comprehend how blessed I am to live in such a melting pot of musical flavors with all genres being embraced equally.”
All things considered, it appears that Callo’s nonprofit continuing to have a viable presence through the New Orleans metropolitan area.
Amongst the reasons is that NolaFreeVoice will be on hand for the inaugural Bogalusa Blues Festival, during which it will be a special guest and will officially launch what Callo calls its “biggest project yet.”
In addition, Callo said, her NolaFreeVoice nonprofit community-based radio station has become dedicated to airing both established and independent artists locally and abroad which, as she emphasized, “we are extremely excited about.”
Speaking of excitement, Callo is extremely giddy and grateful for the continuous strides her nonprofit corporation has made in recent years and she’d be remiss is she did not give credit to her solid support system that includes family, friends, as well as her church family, she said.
“I have worn many hats over the course of my 16-plus-year career,” Callo said. “I scout talent for local record labels. I’ve been a radio and internet show host for five years (WBOK 1230 AM) and a songwriter for Playwright Edward Cronk, and also media relations representative for newer record labels needing establishment.”
Such awesome responsibilities had ultimately given way to Callo having established solid rapports with the likes of Charmaine Neville, Mystical’s record label Icehouse Studios, Katy Redd, Big Freedia, Tom Worrell, Paul Boudreaux, and Grammy Award-winning Jazz trumpeter Kurt Brunus.
“Each and every one of these wonderful people gave me great memories of working with them,” Callo said.
Today, unlike never before, she’s destined to reach back and aid others mightily through her notable nonprofit organization.
“I pray that God allows me to encourage others to pursue their dreams regardless of if that dream is musically-based or not,” Callo said. “Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, so time invested to reach for your goals and achieve them is never time wasted.”
Now we know why she can be appropriately described as a number of superlatives.
A distinctly unique woman of many hats should undoubtedly top the list.
