“Every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities. And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in a way that others might not see you, simply because they’ve never seen it before. And we will applaud you every step of the way.” — Kamala Harris, Vice-President, United States of America
BRASWELL DONE, YOUNG LADY
LANCASTER, Texas — Roslyn Boyd has adopted an intriguing catchphrase, particularly with regards to the educational progression of her daughter, Tiana Boyd.
Well, actually two proverbs, to put it more precisely.
“My motto for Tiana is, ‘You Go Girl,’ ‘You Got This,’ Roslyn Boyd said. “Be all that you can and want to be as you go to the next level in life.”
Fortunately for Tiana Boyd, that conventional “next level” will take place this fall when she bolts the Dallas/Fort Worth area for college, but not before she becomes the beneficiary of a diploma during Braswell High School’s commencement exercises Friday at 7 p.m. CST on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton.
As part of Making Headline News’ Annual Salute To Graduate Tributes for 2023, Tiana Boyd’s parents, Devon and Roslyn Boyd, expressed how impressed they are in the continuous development of Tiana Boyd, whom they said has overcome a rash of obstacles dating back to grade school.
“We are super ecstatic at the progress she made from being held back in fifth grade and surpassing what the school justified as not passing the standardized test to now graduating with A’s and B’s,” Roslyn Boyd told MHN. “We’ve watched her blossom into a beautiful young lady.”
Beauty and brains, to be technical.

To her credit, Tiana Boyd steadfastly made her presence felt in and out of the classroom, having amassed a cumulative grade point average of 2.9063 while emerging as a catalyst for Braswell’s marching band and the school’s sports medicine program.
Next up: it’s off to Texas Wesleyan University, a private Methodist institution in nearby Fort Worth that is comprised of roughly 2,000 students, according to U. S. News & World Report.
According to her parents, Tiana Boyd chose Texas Wesleyan over North Texas, LSU, and Texas Southern University.
Freshman orientation, Tiana Boyd told MHN on Tuesday, is little less than two months away.
“We will truly miss her and the craziness that she adds to this family,” Roslyn Boyd, a mother of three, said. “She is very responsible and keeps the other siblings in line, so I will truly miss my little mother hen of the family. She will be very close, so I look forward to her coming home and sharing college memories with us.”
As her daughter’s highly-anticipated graduation looms, Roslyn Boyd admittedly can’t help but reminisce on those days during which her middle child was a vivacious, exuberant preschooler.
“I will be thinking of how when she was in kindergarten,” said Roslyn, explaining what will go through her mind Friday night when her daughter’s name is uttered through the loudspeakers to receive her diploma. “I said, ‘I can’t wait until you graduate from high school,’ and now we are here.”
Interestingly enough, the Boyds said amongst the trends they especially relish is how their daughter was determined to endure — and defy — the flurry of odds that surfaced amid the unprecedented global pandemic.
“Tiana struggled during the pandemic,” Roslyn Boyd recalls. “However, when we came out of it, she set her mind on success and achieved greatness. Tiana’s grades improved…even her social skills, and now you can’t stop Tiana from being the best that she can at everything she does.”
FAMILY TIES
By all accounts, the Boyds are convinced their daughter’s fervent rise to academic success is a sign of things to come when she sets foot on a college campus in the coming months.
“She is determined to reach her goals that she has set and won’t let anyone stop her,” Roslyn Boyd said. “She is a strong-minded young lady and won’t be distracted by others trying to reach her success. The sky is the limit for her. She can reach and obtain anything that she puts her mind too.”
You go girl.
You got this.
