A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. (Proverbs 18:16/NIV)
AND IT CAME TO PASS
You can now refer to her as Dr. Tangela Collins-Myers.
In what undoubtedly has emerged as a banner year for this longtime Indian Trail, North Carolina-based businesswoman, Dr. Collins-Myers has emphatically acquired yet another memorable milestone, earning a Doctorate of Christian Leadership from School of The Great Commission Bible College & Seminary.
Her latest honor took place during an official ceremony on December 16 in Columbia, South Carolina.
As part of Making Headline News’ advance national media coverage for Bishop T. D. Jakes 2024 International Leadership Summit from Dallas, Texas March 21-23, Dr. Collins-Myers spoke at length about how her latest achievement comes amid humble beginnings, something this devout woman of faith doesn’t merely take lightly.
“So grateful for the incredible honor God has bestowed upon me — to be Dr. Tangela Collins-Myers — and what He is doing in my life,” Dr. Collins-Myers told MHN this week.
More than anything, Dr. Collins-Myers emphasized, her latest honor is a testament to the divine calling on her life.
“I’m ready to walk in the anointing that God has placed on my life and to contribute to the world of knowledge and make a positive impact,” Dr. Collins-Myers said. “I am so elated to see this day happen.”
As Dr. Collins-Myers acknowledged, such a memorable, life-altering moment wouldn’t have to come to fruition if not for her solid system, one that is spearheaded by her lifelong companion.
“Thanks to my husband, Douglas D, Myers, for being by my side every step of the way,” Dr. Collins-Myer said. “Huge thank you to Dr. Deidra Roussaw, founder of TrulyWed Wives. I was super proud to share that day of elevation with my business partners, friends, and sisters and our mentor — one of the greatest, national director Dr. Michelle W. Cofer. All of these ladies made it possible for me.”

When asked what initially went through your mind when she heard her name uttered through the loudspeakers on graduation night, Dr. Collins-Myers said:
“God is faithful to fulfill His promises. I had prayed a few years ago about attending seminary school and obtaining my doctorate, I had forgotten about the prayer, but He didn’t. He gave me the desires of my heart. Also, just sharing it with my sisters was extra special. Having close friends and family there to celebrate with me was special.”
As Collins-Myers recalls, her latest milestone comes amid more than two-and-a-half decades in the banking industry. By all accounts, she sensed it was time to delve into a different line of work.
Mission accomplished.
“After being in banking for 26 years with one of the top financial institutions in the world, I decided in 2019 to retire as bank executive and transition from an employee to entrepreneur,” Dr. Collins-Myers explained. “(I decided to) to take the limits off my time, (and I thought) about the community impact I could make and my income potential.”
Now that her quest to acquiring her much-anticipated Doctorate Degree is complete, Dr. Collins-Myers said it’s time to broaden her horizon, a trend that will include launching a women’s empowerment ministry in the marketplace through Women of Wealth (WOW).
A credible empowerment organization, Women of Wealth is founded by seven women: Dr. Collins, Dr. Cofer, Geraldine Andre, Lady Cheronda Hester, Dr. Tina Houchins, Dr. Tameisha Jenkins, and Yolanda Mede.
“We have some major plans and events launching in 2024, including the release of our financial literacy guide for women,” said Dr. Collins-Myers, adding that WOW’s mission is centered on Empowering Communities and Building Legacy Through Financial Literacy and Real Estate.
MAKING IMMEASURABLE STRIDES
As Dr. Collins-Myers recalls, the hassle undoubtedly was worth the tassel.
“It has been a long journey through my 26-year financial service corporate career where I had to endure being overlooked and had to be twice or three times as good at what I did,” Dr. Collins-Myers told MHN. “And I had to overcome the grief from losing four key individuals in my life — first my grandmother, Helen Polk Collins, and uncle Steve Boggan, in 2020, just two days apart.
“Then our son, Sherodd Graves Myers (passed away) in 2021 and he was only 29 years old. And then my brother-in-law, Ervin “Da Soul Man” McKoy, in 2022, and he was only 48 years old. The past few years have been very turbulent and soul-shaking, to say the least. But I still had to move forward as a full-time wife and daughter, full-time mother and GiGi (grandmother), involved in ministry and as community leader, and successful business owner while keeping the dream alive to inspire to the pinnacle of education.”
Mission accomplished.
