Calvin Sims is a native of Killeen, Texas but has spent the majority of his life residing in Memphis.
For what it’s worth, he has grasped a deep passion for the Bluff City throughout the years.
So much, in fact, that Sims, a rising rap artist and entrepreneur, is aiming to send a huge figurative shout out to the Memphis Grizzlies by way of immeasurable musical talents.
Suitably known as “Dada P.,” Sims is the mastermind behind Curbsyde Typpin, his newly-produced hit he’s dedicated exclusively to the Grizzlies organization.
SLAM DUNK HIT
“I specifically had the team in mind when I wrote the song,” Sims told Making Headline News during a recent interview.
Although Memphis is 13 games behind the pivotal 10th spot in the Western Conference for a chance to participate in NBA’s Play-In Tournament, Sims said he remains hopeful the organization would consider playing his song, particularly during warmups for a Grizzlies squad that has six home games remaining in the 2023-24 campaign.
“I wanted to represent Memphis in a good light by showing our pride for Memphis and what we are about and that is having a good time, eating BBQ, and riding our cars around and flexing in the city,” Sims, 40, said.
To his credit, Curbsyde Typpin has become one of Sims’ popular hits, a song that last approximately 3 ½ minutes.
Curbsyde Typpin, as well as Sims’ other music, can be purchased via his website at https://shop.doublefent.com/ or where music is sold.
As Sims recalls, the legwork for his featured song began sometime in 2015, thanks in large part to the assistance of Jptrackz, a fellow Memphian who helped produced Sims’ album sometime last year.
So why Curbsyde Typpin?
“The actual meaning of the song is telling the fans where I’m from, how we like to ride our cars around the city, and what we do on a daily basis,” Sims explained.
Although he currently resides in Dothan, Alabama — an approximate 6-½ commute to Memphis — Sims has a direct message to the Grizzlies organization.
“I would like to let them know that I feel this song will be a good fit and inspiration for the team to walk out to,” Sims said. “(This is the ideal song for) when they get home and especially from the road games — the reason being because it has an amazing intro with letting Memphis fans know that we are from Memphis and to let opposing teams know that we are here to take care of some business, which is our hustle mentality.”
As Sims acknowledged, such a fascinating hit is befitting for a team amid a season of a slew of highs and lows, as evidenced by the Western Conference standings.
“I feel the chorus (in this song) will give the players the extra boost to uplift them to go the extra miles as they always do, day in and night,” Sims told MHN. “It will set the stage up to make sure you know who we are and where we are from. Also, the instrumentals will jump the stadium or venue off.”

An entertainment stint that dates back to when he was 17 years of age, Sims has produced an array of other notable songs, most notably Top Back and Crown N Coke.
Other hits, he said, are currently in the works.
“I also have two new singles coming out this year, one from me and another from Brother K I called, Beat The Beat.
Besides having emerged as an up-and-coming recording artist, Sims is a rising entrepreneur, given he oversees the day-to-day operations of a men and women’s clothing/accessories online store.

“I really would like for people or the fans to purchase all my music, sweaters, hats, and shirts on my website,” Sims said. “Yes, I have music on all platforms but making a living (off one stream of income) is not it for local artists. I appreciate all the support that I have gotten.”
Especially from residents of the Bluff City which, as far as Sims is concerned, will forever be home.
