MORE DESTINY STEPS
The 30th Anniversary of The Essence Music Festival is one Destiny Baquet undoubtedly will remember for the rest of her life.
One moment, Baquet is attracting national headlines amid Making Headline News’ 2024 Essence Music Festival three-day coverage for “the party with a purpose” event July 5-7 in New Orleans for her forthcoming milestone as a recipient for an Honorary Doctorate.
Then, earlier this week, the esteemed Atlanta businesswoman was afforded the golden opportunity to pose a question to renowned contemporary R&B and pop music superstar Usher, who wooed fans with a special one-night-only performance of his entire Confessions album on the final night of the event.
SALUTING WOMEN WHO SHAPE OUR WORLD
DESTINY: GRACING THE NATIONAL STAGE
That Baquet, the owner and CEO of Destiny National Tax Services, was granted the opportunity to ask Usher a question along with the assembled media came as a massive surprise to the well-respected philanthropist.
“You’ve mentored many young artists and have been a significant influence in the music industry. How do you choose who to mentor, and what advice do you give them and business owners?” Baquet asked Usher as the renowned entertainer took questions the media hours after he headlined the annual festival this past weekend alongside fellow music icons like Janet Jackson and Birdman, while other performers included Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Victoria Monét and The Roots.
Up next, the R&B legend will kick off his highly-anticipated tour run in August with three shows in his hometown of Atlanta.
Prior to arriving in New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival, the 45-year-old superstar singer was hot off the heels of winning this year’s BET Lifetime Achievement Award, a milestone that prompted Baquet applaud Usher for his more-than-three decades of valiant contributions to the Black culture music industry.
