He that maketh many friends doeth it to his own destruction; But there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24/American Standard Version)
MOMS KNOW BEST
During a weekend interview with Making Headline News, accomplished author Paula M. Karll was asked when God infused within her the vision to compose The Adventures of Ellie and Eve: Ellie Meets A New Friend.
Karll, as only she could, fielded the question as if she expected it.
“God gave me this vision to write this book, and it was inspired by an actual experience that my daughters, Elise and Elaine, had at the park,” Karll recalls. “Elise wanted to play with new friends. She asked a few children to play, and they said, ‘No.’ They did not want to play with her.”
Consequently, a rather intriguing turn of events — at the exact same venue — unfolded en route to Karll producing her third book.

“Although disappointed, she soon realized she was meant to meet a special new friend that day — someone who said, ‘Yes,’” Karll explained. “Elise did not see the physical ailment the little girl had. She only saw friendship when she met her new friend. Elise learned we should not judge people by the way they look. Instead, we should get to know them for who they are.”
A Chicago-based award-winning children’s book author, special education teacher, devoted wife, and mother of two “beautiful” daughters, Karll emphasized, among other things, the importance of why children must always be kind and helpful to others.
“(They should) be open to making new friends with people who may not look like you,” Karll said. “The most important reason why I chose to produce this book is to encourage children to be mindful of the differences that exist among their friends. It’s helpful for them to understand that some children, because of physical abilities, may move and play differently.”

Interestingly enough, Karll acknowledged that The Adventures of Ellie and Eve: Ellie Meets A New Friend was written to share the importance of inclusion and the significance of kindness and empathy.
In essence, Ellie Meets A New Friend embraces her new friend and helps her overcome hurdles, said Karll, introducing E-L-L-I-E, an acronym that is critical for caring and embracing a child’s unique abilities — one that is destined to provide what this gifted writer describes as a sense of Empathy, Love, Lionheartedness, Inclusivity, and Empowerment (E-L-L-I-E) spirit.
An avid educator who boasts over 10 years of experience working with grades K-through-12, Karll began constructing Ellie Meets A New Friend sometime in Spring 2022 and finished it in the final quarter of the year.
WOMAN OF DIVNE EXCELLENCE
To her credit, such a book has been as good as advertised.
“The feedback I want to garnered is positive, sharing this story, invitation to share in schools, community centers, children’s hospitals, and the world,” Karl told MHN. “This book’s purpose is I believe God has created me to share the E.L.L.I.E spirit.”
Karll witnessed her authorship debut come full circle in 2021 with the release of The Adventures of Ellie and Eve: Ellie Meets The New Baby, an awe-inspiring written that resulted in her becoming the recipient for two awards: The Mom’s Choice in 2021 and the Distinguished Author Guild Award in 2022.
And just recently, Karll became one of a gallery of co-authors who will grace the pages of Turning My Pain Into Purpose: Volume 2, New York Visionary Author Dr. Shana Gourdine’s anthology that will debut in Spring 2025.
As for the divine message she aspires to send by way of Ellie Meets A New Friend, Dr. Gourdine said:
“The author incorporates an inclusive depiction of children with visible physical differences, which allows young readers to make positive connections with characters who may look different but are basically the same as everyone else — on the inside. We all experience joy, laughter, sadness, and challenges. We all enjoy friendship, too. Discussion questions and learning activities are included to support parents in communicating with their children and encouraging them to be like [E-L-L-I-E].”
Additional books, Karll said, are forthcoming.
“In (Turning My Pain Into Purpose: Volume 2), I will share a personal story about the trials of three miscarriages in three years,” said Karll, “and God’s plan to allow me to birth another child, which I call my miracle baby.”
