NEW BOOK ALERT: Esteemed Atlanta author Donita J. Allen’s ‘Why Did I Choose Him?’ attracting a slew of rave reviews

Andre Johnson March 11, 2026

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33/New Living Translation)

SET ASIDE FOR GOD’S USE

PUTTIN’ WORK — During an interview this week with Making Headline News as part of its Salute To Women’s History Month 2026, Donita J. Allen — whose pen name is Just Donita — announced that her forthcoming new book is one of four authorship projects the Atlanta-based writer plans to introduce this year. The title: Why Did I Choose Him?, Allen’s highly-anticipated book that is scheduled to make its ceremonious debut in April 2026.

For Donita J. Allen, it all began to unfold during a time in which she began to assess — and reflect upon — the overall landscape of her life.

“It wasn’t a sudden moment, said Allen, “but rather a gradual unfolding, a persistent inner nudge that this story needed to be told.”

The story to which Allen is referring is one that has evolved into a life-altering book.

AND IT CAME TO PASS — “The writing process began during a period of intense introspection,” Allen told MHN. “Like many deeply personal works, it evolved over time. This was not simply writing it was revisiting experiences, emotions, and truths. The completion came when the story felt honest, raw, and complete rather than perfect.”

During an interview this week with Making Headline News as part of its Salute To Women’s History Month 2026, Allen — whose pen name is Just Donita — announced that her forthcoming new book is one of four authorship projects the Atlanta-based writer plans to introduce this year.

Allen’s Broken is scheduled to be released in June, Lost In The System is set to debut in August, and Smoke In Between The Fire is slated to be released in October.

“The vision for this book was born during a deeply reflective season of my life,” Allen said of her forthcoming written work. “God placed it on my heart at a time when I was processing relationships, patterns, healing, and self-awareness.”

SALUTING WOMEN WHO SHAPE OUR WORLD

Allen began the legwork for Why Did I Choose Him? sometime in 2022, a book that currently is in its final production phase. Upon its upcoming release, the longtime author is confident she will have accomplished her vision surrounding a book that took a considerable amount of time to compose.

“The writing process began during a period of intense introspection,” Allen told MHN. “Like many deeply personal works, it evolved over time. This was not simply writing it was revisiting experiences, emotions, and truths. The completion came when the story felt honest, raw, and complete rather than perfect.”

At its core, though, Why Did I Choose Him? was written to explore what this writer deems the emotional, psychological, and relational patterns that many of us experience but rarely articulate.

“The underlying reason was healing — not only my own — but also to give voice to readers who have wrestled with love, attachment, disappointment, and self-discovery,” Allen explained. “The message is rooted in self-awareness, love, and personal growth. Sometimes, our choices are reflections of wounds, fears, unmet needs, or learned behaviors. The book invites readers to examine love through a lens of honesty, self-reflection, and compassion rather than shame or regret.”

Weeks before the official release of Why Did I Choose Him?, Allen is already fielding an assortment of favorable reviews as she puts the wraps on her latest book project.

“Readers often describe the story as relatable, thought-provoking, and emotionally honest,” Allen said. “Many connect with the internal struggles, relational complexities, and psychological depth woven into the narrative.”

Prior to Why Did I Choose Him?, Allen penned the following books: In Pain on Purpose, The Power of Love, My First Love: Poetry, and her children’s book series entitled, The Robinson Brother’s Adventure: Saving, Manners, and Bullying.

VISION FOCUSED — “The vision for this book was born during a deeply reflective season of my life,” Allen said of her forthcoming written work. “God placed it on my heart at a time when I was processing relationships, patterns, healing, and self-awareness.”

As for why Did I Choose Him?, Allen doesn’t shy away from the notion that her forthcoming book aligns with her God-given purpose.

“This book reflects my commitment to speaking to the realities many broken women endure but rarely voice,” Allen said. “Through my stories, I strive to create spaces of recognition, reflection, and restoration. Each narrative is written with the intention of inspiring healing, encouraging self-awareness, and reminding women of their strength, value, and capacity for renewal.

“My work aligns with my deeper purpose: to use words as a bridge between pain and healing, between silence and understanding, and ultimately between brokenness and wholeness.”

JOB WELL DONE — Weeks before the official release of Why Did I Choose Him?, Allen is already fielding an assortment of favorable feedback as she puts the wraps on her latest book project.
