MAKING A DIFFERENCE 

According to Shelita M. Anderson’s bio, she widely regarded as an author who customarily writes books that are inspirational, spiritual, and bring about a message of hope.

To her credit, she’s now going to great lengths to take her immeasurable spiritual gifts a step further.

Anderson, along with a gallery of her colleagues, will be on hand for the National Black Book Festival (or NBBF) on October 25-26.

A two-day event that is powered by the NBBF, the National Black Book Festival will take at Houston’s Fallbrook Church, located at 12512 Walters Road.

A festival for adults — and youths ranging in ages three-and-up — the NBBF is considered the largest African-American book event in the South, a spokesperson told Making Headline News this week.

More than 100 authors from around the country are expected to attend this festival, which will include more than a dozen featured speakers, each of whom are accomplished authors.

An event that is free and open to the public, Friday’s opening session will take place from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. CST. Saturday’s session that for children will take place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. CST.

For Anderson, a native of Houston, she has gone to great lengths to fully embrace the purpose for which she was created, particularly through the ever-so-competitive world of authorship.

That’s because Anderson has written seven books to date, including three children’s books within the past six years.

As it relates to her affiliation with the NBBF, Anderson said her purpose and mission is centered largely on sharing hope and inspiration to children and adults through the art of writing.

“My purpose and mission for the radio show is to use my voice to speak to all generations through inspiration and interactive communication,” said Anderson, referring to KCOH Radio, KCOH-TV, 92.9FM, HD2, and The Nolen Davis Show, the media outlets that will be on hand for the NBBF.

The feedback Anderson has garnered about this festival has been overwhelmingly favorable, she said.

“(People have said) ‘I would love to come to see the work of black authors. I will definitely be there to support you. I want my children to experience an event such as this,” Anderson said.

While referencing Mark 9:23, Anderson emphasized that the two-day book festival will serve as a strategic way, of sorts, particularly as it pertains to impacting the kingdom.

“Both events (will) impact the kingdom in a positive manner by showing that when you put God first, you can do anything, because nothing is too hard for Him,” Anderson said. “Many authors have endured hardships to get to the place where they have written, completed, published, and now marketing their books. This is a testimony that if you can believe all things are possible.”

A longtime registered nurse (RN) who is employed as a system nursing director for a large healthcare organization, Anderson’s healthcare industry tenure spans more than 30 years.

Interestingly, she is responsible for having authored what has become her featured book entitled, “My Mommy, Cancer, And Me,” an awe-inspiring written work dedicated to children whose parents have been stricken by cancer.

Ironically, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
