MASSIVE WORK OF ART
DALLAS — There’s no other way to say it.
Dominique Johnson is an absolute beast with a camera.
Don’t get it twisted, mind you.
When it comes to entrepreneurs demonstrating a fervent passion for what they do, Johnson is, well…let’s just say Johnson is rather forthright and to the point.
“I can easily say the talent that flows through my veins is nothing less than an almighty gift from God,” Johnson told Making Headline News during a recent interview. “Being creative is a very hard talent to maintain, especially in a world where being generic is praised by the majority. Since my early adolescent stage, my mind has easily swayed between imagination and logical thinking.”
To his distinctly unique credit, being creative essentially has become a purposeful lifestyle, of sorts, for Johnson, the mastermind behind Astonished Innovations LLC, a credible venture that customarily allows him to display his remarkably brilliant gifts in this, the ever-so-competitive photography industry.

Widely known as amongst his peers as “Trezz,” Johnson undoubtedly has found his niche as a professional photographer, a trend that much to his delight, has given way to the Topeka, Kansas native evolving more as a visual artist type of entrepreneur.
Johnson’s Astonished Innovations LLC is located at 2161 Corzine Drive in nearby Arlington, Texas, a facility that also includes what he describes as a “creative studio” for artists to rent.
For Johnson, 36, the prelude to discovering his divine purpose started courtesy of his love for poetry.
“Poetry was one of my first expressions that allowed me to bring readers into thoughts of my own, so they can endure every ounce of pain and joy one child could go through in their youth,” Johnson explained. “I easily adhered to this method of expression from studying prominent writers of the Harlem Renaissance, such as Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and Alice Dunbar-Nelson.”
Interestingly, Johnson’s in-depth study and analysis of various prominent poets had ultimately enhanced his mechanics as an accomplished visual artist, and it certainly shows through his eye-catching, attention-grabbing work.
In fact, his assortment of images is a thing of beauty.
“My personal goal is to have my name listed besides some of the elite historic photographers/visual artists and bring a higher level of respect to my name,” said Johnson, issuing such a dauntless declaration with a straight face. “No monetary value can ever replace the smiles, compliments, and emotions I feel when others finally see what they’ve created with me. It’s a remarkable feeling.”
Credit his remarkable work — err visual art — as arguably the No. 1 reason Johnson’s clients are left blown away by his unique and unorthodox style of photography skills, a profession that spans some eight-plus years.
And counting.
“I’ve been capturing images for over 8 years,” Johnson said. “A majority of those years were (spent) learning my craft. It took me a long time before asking someone to step in front of my camera. I wanted my skills to be there, so the only thing I needed to focus on was the posing and composition of the images.”
For Johnson, practice undoubtedly has made perfect. Or pretty much close to it.
“As years progressed, my form of expressions went from the written word, to the ear’s harmony,” Johnson explaining, venturing back to the infancy days of his admiration for poetry. “(I was) teaching myself how to bend and twist sounds in a manner that formed an emotional tidal wave for listeners which, in my opinion, is an art that is slowly dying. Eventually, bridging the gap between my creative poetry and musical compositions, I was able to develop stories to inspire uninspired individuals and give them confidence to be better than yesterday (a.ka. I was a “rapper” for a few years.)”
Johnson’s Astonished Innovations accommodates clients of all ages, he said.
“Being a visual artist means creating something that can captivate the customer in all conditions while creating something that can be appreciated until the end of time,” Johnson said. “My versatility has no limits. I am a creator. I am an artist.”
Fortunately for Johnson, it is due in large part to his distinct versatility that has greatly enable him to successfully — and appropriately — find his niche, thus set himself apart from others in what is widely regarded as one of the most competitive industries of our generation.
What’s even more astounding for Johnson is that his work as a visual artist customarily leaves a lasting impression on virtually everyone with whom he crosses paths.
“With so much negativity in the world, people can use a little positivity in their day-to-day life,” said Johnson, who credits Steven Massey (Founder/Director of It Takes A Village, Inc.), Sandra D. Johnson-Peters, and his late cousin, Tiffany Davenport for having paved the way to his entrepreneurship success. “Dreams are often shattered because of the corporate structure. I want to remind the youth of today and the future that you can climb much higher than standards set by society.”
To his credit, Johnson would certainly know which, much to his delight, practically sums up why he’s an absolute beast with a camera.
There’s no other way to say it.
