Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. (Philippians 2:3 NKJV)
ADVANCING THE KINGDOM
DALLAS — For Dr. Bridgette Turner-Jenkins, it was a vision to which God introduced her sometime in 2018.
Although, she admittedly placed it by the wayside, to her credit, she steadfastly grabbed a firm hold of the vision and ran with it.
“(God) actually gave me the vision in 2018,” Dr. Turner-Jenkins, during a recent interview with Making Headline News, said, recalling the memorable developments that ultimately led to the much-anticipated release of her latest books. “But I was working on another project and I really didn’t have the time to dedicate to writing a devotional. So, I put it to the side for a while so I could focus on the other project.”
A native of Houston, Dr. Turner-Jenkins witnessed the release of not one, but two awe-inspiring written works this year, most notably her latest project entitled, Called To Serve: Daily Devotions For Nurses.
Released officially on September 15, Dr. Turner-Jenkins’ Called To Serve: Daily Devotions For Nurses addresses the current state of healthcare and the healthcare environment in America, the Houston-based author told MHN.
“People are living longer and they are living with more chronic disease,” said Dr. Bridgette Turner-Jenkins, explaining the purpose of her latest book. “The more sick the patient is, the harder the nurse works. Nurses are working long hours with poor pay and benefits.”
Interestingly, Dr. Turner-Jenkins suggests, nursing, by all accounts, is a physical, spiritual, and emotional profession, she writes in a book that took approximately one month to compose.

“The nursing profession looks glamorous and easy but it’s not,” Dr. Turner-Jenkins said. “And, it’s actually getting worse. Nurses are exposed to sicknesses and diseases every time they care for a patient, especially now during this time of coronavirus. It’s scary.”
Much to her delight, the feedback since Dr. Turner-Jenkins’ Called To Serve: Daily Devotions For Nurses has been overwhelmingly favorable, considering sales have soared.
“I sold 47 presale books in four hours,” Dr. Turner-Jenkins said. “This tells me that there is a need. Nurses and other healthcare providers need this type of encouragement every day.”
And then there’s Dr. Turner-Jenkins’ From Bedside to Boss Nurse: One Class At A Time, the first book she released in 2020.
A book she began composing in December 2019, Dr. Turner-Jenkins needed approximately five years to assemble From Bedside to Boss Nurse: One Class At A Time, which is comprised of 316 pages in length and a gallery of co-authors.
In essence, Dr. Turner-Jenkins appropriately shares her life-altering story of how she overcame health challenges — particularly disability and unemployment — all of which ultimately led to her becoming a successful nurse entrepreneur.
As mentioned in an introduction of Dr. Turner-Jenkins’ From Bedside to Boss Nurse: One Class At A Time at Amazon.com, this book was written to inspire, empower, inform, and educate nurses, healthcare providers, and those who desire to become an entrepreneur.
Generally, Dr. Turner-Jenkins’ From Bedside to Boss Nurse: One Class At A Time features authors from all over the United States, all of whom vividly share their stories of entrepreneurship. Each story, in fact, will empower and motivate readers to achieving their entrepreneurship goals.
Said Dr. Turner-Jenkins when asked what was the single, most underlying reason she chose to produce her first of two books in 2020:
“I hear that a lot of nurses are suffering from burnout and compassion fatigue. They have been working at the bedside their entire nursing career. I wanted to let nurses know that there are alternatives nursing career outside of the traditional bedside practice areas. I wanted to empower them to stay in the nursing profession.”
Besides Called To Serve: Daily Devotions For Nurses and From Bedside to Boss Nurse: One Class At A Time, Dr. Turner-Jenkins authored the following books:
- Bounce Back: Tips For Overcoming Adversity, Life’s Challenges & Setbacks, released in 2018
- Through Adversity to Triumph: Victory In Nursing, released in 2018 and,
- Bounce Back Journal, released in 2019.
Said Dr. Turner-Jenkins while alluding to Habakkuk 2:2: “I want nurses to think outside of the box. If you keep doing the same thing, you will keep getting the same results. If you are burnt out and want to do something else, change your thinking. Thinking outside the box will feel uncomfortable. You will want to resist this idea, and you will want to go back into the box.
“I am an exhorter, server and encourager,” Dr. Turner-Jenkins added, announcing that a couple of books about dating are presently in the works. “I believe my purpose here on this earth is to uplift, empower, motivate, inspire and educate others. This book will help empower nurses to think outside of the box, get out of their comfort zone and do something that can chafe their life or someone else’s.”
