She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard; She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. (Proverbs 31:16-17 NIV)
GOD’S FAITH-STEPPER
Maxine Pearl Phillips McKoy could be appropriately described as a woman of many hats.
“God has chosen me for this assignment to help others discover what He gave them at birth that no one had to teach them,” McKoy, during a recent interview with Making Headline News, said, recalling the memorable, life-altering developments that have contributed fervently to her entrepreneurial success. “I am commissioned to assist them to identify and discover their purpose. They understand their God-given abilities and how to walk in their purpose, know their worth and value, and can advocate for themselves. If not Maxine Pearl, then who?”
For what it’s worth, that essentially has been the million-dollar question, of sorts, for McKoy, 66, a progressive, thriving businesswoman who serves in the following capacities: Certified Business Coach, Life and Career Strategist, Performance Consultant, Keynote Speaker, Author, and Holistic Health Advocate (or Type 2 Diabetes Coach).
A native of Yukon, West Virginia — a rural, McDowell County establishment — McKoy is the face of Levelless and GAMMS Unlimited, LLC, her Raleigh, North Carolina-based ventures that have become fixtures for empowering women to advocate for themselves, know their worth, and continue to achieve success on their own terms.
Moreover, GAMMS Unlimited, LLC — which is commemorating its 10th year of existence —is widely regarded as a consulting company that customarily empowers people to identify their natural abilities, according to a detailed synopsis of this venture on its Facebook business page.
Generally, McKoy’s company offers the following services:
- One-To-One Coaching (both career and life)
- Group and Team Consulting
- Business Strategy sessions (Start-up, Performance Management, and Learning Management)
- Ability Assessments (Individual, Leadership and Lawyer)
- Workshops (Interpersonal Skills, Customer Service, and Leadership) and,
- Speaking (Customize speaking topics to the audiences and outcomes.)
“(This is generally) a transformation speaker who inspires, motivates, and transforms the audience to internalize how to immediately apply learning and record actions to implement,” McKoy said.

“We specialize in assessing your abilities to give you a competitive advantage of gaining insight, clarity, and confidence when choosing professions,” said a spokesperson for McKoy’s Gamms Unlimited, LLC. “Our clients leave with a life strategy that moves them forward to a purposeful, fulfilled, levelless mindset to achieve continuous success.”
An empowerment extraordinaire in her own right, McKoy’s rise to reaping sustained success as an entrepreneur comes amid humble beginnings.
For starters, this devout woman of faith recalls like yesterday how she had to diligently press and navigate her way past the toughest of obstacles and hurdles, a trend that, much to her delight, had only fueled her fervent quest to defy arguably the toughest of odds — with God, her Helper, steering the way.
“I was overlooked in a 95 percent predominately Caucasian high school and never received information about attending college,” McKoy recalls. “Later in life, I learned that I could have gone to college free because of one parent’s income and 12 children. I promised myself that I would get a degree and help my children understand the importance of education and help others who needed help to know they have God-given abilities to be promoted and understand that they can achieve success on their own, but they must believe in themselves. Yes, the road is not easy, and yes, you do want to give up, but you must always think positive about your mission and stay true to it, no matter how hard it gets. You will achieve what you believe.”
Because of the immeasurable divine calling on her life, coupled with the notion that she steadfastly stayed true to whom God has predestined her to be, McKoy, it many cases, could also be appropriately described as a true overcomer who was determined not to allow critics and naysayers to define her.
If nothing else, she sensed all along that God ultimately has the final say, and that if God says it, that settles it.
“Again in 1984, I was told I would not be promoted without a degree,” McKoy said. “No one should feel inferior because they do not have a degree with God-given abilities to excel in the role and perform outstanding, yet denied salary and promotions because of a degree. I understand when it comes to doctors, lawyers, and dentists, but when it comes to business decisions, leadership, customer service, etc., your God-given talents shine. When you go to school, someone had to teach that person to teach you. Someone had to write the books, design the platform, etc., right?”
For McKoy, even an unlikely layoff from a rewarding Corporate America job and the untimely February 2010 death of her husband could not prevent her from walking in her God-mandated purpose.
If nothing else, such life-altering occurrences only fueled her drive to go after all they said she couldn’t have.
“(My business endeavor services ranging in ages 35-and-up) those who understand that they want to achieve, want to feel appreciated, valued, and allowed to be part of the solutions” said McKoy, “or women who are ready to move forward in their careers and be successful based on their definition of what success is and strategize to continuously achieve it by holding themselves accountable for achieving their goals.”

A graduate of Plano, Texas’s Collin County Community College — which is now called Collin College — with an Associate Degree in Business Administration (she graduated cum laude), McKoy acquired a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (she minored in Human Resources) from North Carolina Wesleyan College, where she graduated magna cum laude.
To her credit, her credible business venture has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, having serviced individuals and groups in at least 20 of the U. S, states, she said.
“Now that we are virtual, I am reaching the world,” McKoy said. “I have spoken to over 30,000 people and reached over 200 countries. Levelless means continue to achieve success on your own terms. You get to define success and not go by society’s definition of success. You are no longer in competition with anyone, not even yourself.

“There are no levels when our clients begin to work with us, and they immediately feel at ease, open up, and begin to flourish and thrive in their career and life,” McKoy continued. “It is as if their light had been turned off inside of them, but after meeting with me once, they begin to have hope, believe in themselves, understand the possibilities and begin to create the life that they dreamed or envisioned. Their success is my success, and their happiness is my happiness.”
Well and eloquently said by this devout woman of faith, one who was destined to defy arguably the toughest of odds.
