I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11 NIV)
SEIZING THE MOMENT
Some time ago in the recent past, Nadia Monsano was browsing the social media timeline when, all of sudden, she was met by a rather intriguing post, one that would ultimately change the overall landscape of her life.
“I remember seeing Dr. Jennifer Jones Bryant’s post about looking for authors for her leadership book,” Monsano told Making Headline News this week. “I remember thinking to myself I have been in leadership for most of my career, from my military life as a staff Sargent, and now my personal life, working in Corporate America and running my own company with a staff. (So, I figured) that I should fill out her form and see if I would be selected to join her. I prayed as I filled out the form and knew if she said, ‘Yes,’ then it was my time to write a chapter in a book.”
For Monsano, not only did she seize a golden opportunity that came wrapped up on a God-orchestrated blessing via social but, much to her delight, she was the beneficiary a resounding “Yes” by Dr. Bryant, the visionary of Step Into Leadership Greatness: Leadership Isn’t Just A Title, a highly-anticipated anthology that is scheduled to debut in March 2021 and foreword by Dr. Mary J. Huntley.
A forthcoming collaborative book project that, within the past week, has garnered an international presence, Monsano needed approximately three weeks to complete her selected chapter for an anthology that figures to be as advertised for quite some time.

“While being in leadership, I learned that no matter the title a person carries, everyone should be treated with respect,” said Monsano, explaining why she had become greatly inspired to contribute to Dr. Bryant’s featured authorship project. “When I saw the title of Dr. Bryant’s book, I knew I wanted to be a part of her amazing co-authors to share my story.”
A native of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago who resides in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Monsano emphasized, among other things, that her strategic message to her reading audience is rather direct and forthright.
“The message that I would like for everyone reading my chapter to know is never judge a book by its cover,” Monsano said. “This was something my grandmother always taught me. I learned not to define someone from their outside appearance, but by understanding their character will tell me a lot about them.
“In my chapter, you will read about how I encountered a person who made a tremendous impact on my life,” Monsano continued. “The only way this happened was because I took the time to listen to this person when they first approached me. When I met them for the very first time, they were not in a suit and tie, so naturally, these are the type of people that you would brush off. However, because I took the time to listen, this person made a tremendous impact in my life. Remember, never judge a book by its outer cover.”
Prior to making her authorship debut, Monsano established My Sister Keeper, a credible quarterly magazine she launched in October 2020.
“The purpose of this magazine is to provide awareness that is near and dear to me,” Monsano said. “The proceeds from my magazine go to a foundation of my choice to help support their needs. October was Cancer Awareness Month, the proceeds from this magazine went toward St. Jude Children’s Hospital Research Center.”
My Sister Keeper’s second edition launched in January, a month that recognizes Down Syndrome Awareness.
“I have a niece with Down Syndrome,” said Monsano, adding that her publication’s next edition will resume in May, which recognizes Lupus Awareness. “The proceeds from this magazine will go toward NDSS to support their foundation.”
As expected, Monsano has benefited mightily amid her valiant contributions to Step Into Leadership Greatness: Leadership Isn’t Just A Title, given the array of favorable feedback she’s acquired.
“Overall, everyone is excited and surprised that I took the time to really focus on writing this chapter for this book,” Monsano said. “I have been so busy with running my own company, working, and taking care of my family that I surprised myself and finished this chapter. The outpour of support was heartfelt. It encourages me to write more.”
Which, of course, she acknowledged will take place, much sooner than later.
“Yes, I plan on writing my own story about choosing the wrong relationships and what I have learned from them,” Monsano said. “And (I plan to spearhead) an anthology with military moms who were deployed to Iraq with me and how we survived deployment while being away from home for a year.”
Talk about seizing more golden opportunities, many of which undoubtedly will come wrapped up on God-orchestrated blessings.
