GIRL DAD
Rekeshia Hudson is destined to carry on the memory of her beloved, big-hearted husband.
And, rightfully so.
During a recent interview with Making Headline News, Hudson announced that she will be hosting what she has appropriated dubbed the inaugural Cleo T. Hudson, Jr. Memorial 5K.
Powered by The Cleo T. Hudson, Jr. Memorial Foundation, Inc., The Cleo T. Hudson, Jr. Memorial 5K will take place on September 4 at 8 a.m. CDT at the historic Brown Missionary Baptist Church, located at 7200 Swinnea Road (South Campus) in Southaven, Mississippi.

“The purpose of our annual 5K is to raise awareness about our mission and purpose, promote health and wellness and community while fundraising for our scholarship, mentorship and community involvement components of our foundation,” Hudson told MHN.
As Hudson recalls, she deemed it essential sometime in September 2020 to host a notable 5K fundraiser in her husband’s memory.
Cleo T. Hudson, Jr. passed away on December 13, 2017. He was 35.
“My vision was made clear during our planning for our operating budget and calendar for the year,” said Hudson, whose event will also include what is known as a Kid Fun Run and Virtual 5K.
A rising nonprofit organization that was established in 2020, The Cleo T. Hudson, Jr. Memorial Foundation has become a fixture for developing and providing scholarships, ongoing mentorship, and transformational community involvement and relationships in the world that we live in, according to a detailed description of Hudson’s featured endeavor at https://www.thecleothudsonjrmf.com/.
SAVE THE DATE
“The purpose of the Cleo T. Hudson, Jr. Memorial Foundation, Inc. is to remember the life and continue the legacy of an upstanding and loving husband and father as family and friends remember what his life represented,” said a spokesperson for the nonprofit organization.
Added Rekeshia Hudson: “When the world loss Cleo, heaven gained an angel. We invite the community as my daughters and I continue to shine his light through our foundation. Our expectations include being a blessing to others as we receive healing during this process.”
Also, Hudson announced that her organization is currently seeking sponsors and race registrants and is offering the following four levels of donations: Bronze ($250), Silver ($500), Gold ($750), and Platinum ($1,000).
Generally, The Cleo T. Hudson, Jr. Memorial Foundation encompasses three components: the scholarship, mentorship, and community involvement.

Each year, Rekeshia Hudson emphasized, the foundation will award scholarships to young men who are products of Shelby County Schools, most notably Whitehaven High School, her husband’s alma mater and Brown Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member.
“The scholarship recipients will matriculate through an eight-month mentorship program,” Rekeshia Hudson explained. “Additionally, when we recognize a need within the community that we are capable of meeting, we will develop a plan and execute the plan of action to give back to the community. We invite you all to learn more about us and tell others about the life and legacy of Mr. Cleo T. Hudson, Jr.”
And, rightfully so.
