Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
(Romans 8:37 KJV)
JOYFUL THEME
Thank God for the compelling theme.
Because come hell or high water, Avalon Brown can greatly attest to the notion that the joy of the Lord is her strength.
“The theme really caught my attention because I would be writing about having your joy when times are difficult,” Brown, during an interview this week with Making Headline News, said of her latest authorship achievement.
The theme to which Brown is alluding is that about which accompanies Finding Joy In the Journey Vol 2: Healthy Ways To Find Joy During Difficult Times 90 Day Devotional, Washington, DC author/businesswoman Vernessa Blackwell’s highly-anticipated 12th anthology that made its official debut in July 2021.
A book that is comprised of 190 pages in length, 90 co-authors have assembled to collectively birth Blackwell’s Finding Joy In the Journey Vol 2 Healthy Ways to Find Joy During Difficult Times 90 Day Devotional, whereby they strategically engage in real talk about finding joy during difficult times, most notably COVID-19, loss, love, grief, and healing, among other pertinent topics, Blackwell told MHN last week.

For Brown, a beloved Newark, New Jersey-based nurse-turned-accomplished-author, she deemed it a foregone conclusion to join a nationally-acclaimed anthology that has become an Amazon No. 1 Bestseller.
To God be the glory for the remarkably fascinating theme.
“Many people do not realize you can still have joy when times are rough,” said Brown, explaining her fervent desire for joining Blackwell’s Finding Joy In the Journey Vol 2: Healthy Ways To Find Joy During Difficult Times 90 Day Devotional. “You do not have to lose your smile because you may have lost something of importance. When things seem hard, you just must focus on the joy. You must get the good out of the bad. When you look at the situation, there is always a good part to it.
“Take this latest flood we had in our complex,” Brown continued. “A lot of us lost our cars, but we did not lose our lives. That is the good part that came out of the bad. So, I can smile because God took care of me once again. Things could have been worst.”
AND IT CAME TO PASS…
By all accounts, Brown doesn’t shy away from the notion that Finding Joy In The Journey aligns with the purpose for which God created her.
“God has transformed me into a person of love,” Brown said. “He has given me a light that He means for me to shine out there in the world. He wants to show love to all, even when they don’t show love back. I am to be a comfort for those in need. He wants me to give a word of encouragement to those who wants to know someone cares.”
In other words, Brown emphasizes, what this awe-inspiring journey all boils down to is devising ways to strategically uplift to people, particularly when they find themselves enduring unfavorable situations and circumstances.

“By being an example, I know what it is and what it takes to keep the joy He has put in me, even when I go through trials and tribulations,” Brown said. “He never said everything would be easy, but He promises to take me through the mountain and not around it.”
Having composed or contributed to 11 books to date, Brown made her authorship debut in 2012 with the release of It was The Devil All Along.
Her other written works include:
- My Two Bishops & Mother, released in 2017
- Ben There’s A Mouse In The House, released in 2019
- Mommy Why Do I Have A Cold? (released in 2019)
- My Dad & The Big Machine, which debuted in 2019
- That Need Is Not For Me, which debuted in 2019
- The Church That I Love, released in 2020
- The Pivot, an anthology that debuted in 2020 and,
- Daughters Of A King and Single, Saved Struggle (audio book version), anthologies that debuted in 2021
Finding Joy In the Journey Vol 2: Healthy Ways To Find Joy During Difficult Times 90 Day Devotional, meanwhile, was ideal for such perilous times as now, Brown senses.
“Know the spirit that is before you,” Brown said. “The devil is always looking to bring you down. No matter what you are going through, keep your head up and believe that God has your back. He will never leave you alone. Sometimes, we must wait in God while we wait on God. Don’t let nothing take your joy. If you seem like you are losing it, focus on God’s word and get back to that place where you felt His joy. If we remember what He has already done for us, then we can have faith in what He will do for us now.”

That Brown had crossed paths with Blackwell was a life-altering divine intervention, of sorts.
“I was strolling through social media and ran across the invitation to be part of a devotional anthology,” Brown says without hesitation.
Praise God for the spiritually-empowering theme.
