Shadow Foundation official has announced that they will be hosting the Set It Off: Unlocking The Reset Codes, a notable Zoom webinar that will take place on June 19, 2022 from 2-6 p.m. EST.
Generally, the purpose for this empowerment event is to equip current and formerly incarcerated and their families with the necessary resources for reentry, etc., The Shadow Foundation representative told Making Headline News.
In essence, Set It Off: Unlocking The Reset Codes ironically will take place on Juneteenth.
Registration for Set It Off: Unlocking The Reset Codes is available via Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/set-it-off-tickets-265094303197.
“We’re going to Set It Off, Juneteenth 2022 via Zoom from 2:00pm-6:00pm EST,” Shadow Foundation representative Monica Williams said. “The Shadow Foundation and influential speakers will reset the codes of past conditioning to free the mind and restore the African-American Community. We’re going to celebrate Juneteenth by Honoring Opal Lee, grandmother of Juneteenth, and learn the full history, support black-owned businesses, and donate to supportive organizations. The purpose of the event is to equip current and formally incarcerated and their families with the necessary resources for reentry.”

Juneteenth is suitably known as the oldest known nationally celebrated event commemorating the end of slavery in the United States of America. President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation declared that as of January 1, 1863, all slaves in states in rebellion against the Union “shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.”
However, it was not until June 19, 1865, or approximately two years later, that the U.S. Army took possession of Galveston Island in Texas and began a war against defenders of slavery that the enslaved people in Galveston could subsequently begin their journey towards freedom.
By all accounts, mass incarceration has picked up where slavery left off, separating families and dehumanizing and traumatizing the descendants of enslaved people. Although the war on drugs had sparked the significant incline of mass incarceration, there are three factors that sustain its impact: over-policing in redlined and marginalized communities, longer sentencing for minor crimes, and endless restrictions after being released.

Surely, the past matters. In fact, there’s a direct line from slavery to the fact that the average black family has only 10 cents for every dollar held by the average white family. Moreover, there’s a direct line from slavery to the fact that black people — while only accounting for 13 percent of the overall population — make up 40 percent of the prison population. Therefore, slavery isn’t something from the distant past. Rather, its impact is felt and seen right even to this day, particularly amongst black Americans.
This country, for the most part, has never truly reckoned with slavery — and if some political leaders have their way, we never will — but we can’t ever hope to effectively fight systemic racism or transform our broken criminal justice system if we don’t truly understand why and how things got to be the way they are.
