Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world). (Zechariah 4:10/NLT)
SET ASIDE FOR GOD’S USE
If we’re being honest, no one can thoroughly explain Sylvia O’Connor’s life-altering journey the way she can.
Consider, for instance, how O’Connor, a progressive, flourishing businesswoman, exemplified a great deal of transparency while recalling how her rise to success comes amid humble beginnings.
“I grew up in a poor family in Louisiana,” O’Connor explains to the masses via https://sylvia-oconnor.com/. “We did not have enough food, let alone a refrigerator, electricity, or a telephone but we did have love. Yet somehow, I always knew that I would work my way out of poverty.”
Indeed, she did, with God, her Helper, steering the way.

“I took the first step toward breaking out of my less-than-optimal life circumstances when I moved to Detroit, Michigan to live with my aunt after high school graduation,” O’Connor recalls. “I had never been outside of the south before and left my family, friends, and everything else to seek a better life.
“It was not easy. But thanks to my aunt’s guidance, care, and financial support, I earned the Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree I needed to spend over 30 years in health care.”
Besides having emerged as a well-respected fixture in her chosen profession for three-plus decades, O’Connor enjoyed a notable stint as an adjunct professor in Allied Health at Davenport University, particularly at the Dearborn, Livonia, and Warren campuses in the Detroit metropolitan area.
It is, by all accounts, due in large part to her immeasurable perseverance and bend-but-don’t-break faith that O’Connor has become greatly inspired to delve into the ever-evolving world of entrepreneurship, most notably as the face of Sylvia O’Connor SOAR LLC, her rising empowerment venture in which she serves as a life coach and motivational speaker.
As part of Making Headline News’ advance coverage of Sarah Jakes Roberts’ inaugural Woman Evolve Conference September 14-16 from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, O’Connor recalled how God has blessed her mightily to start a featured business endeavor that has brought her a considerable amount of success since its inception two years ago.
“I like to pay it forward,” O’Connor told MHN, explaining why it is imperative to esteem others daily. “There were always those who encouraged me. It encourages you when you encourage others. I may not be where I am today if it was not for people that encouraged me to want to be better and have a better life.”

For what it’s worth, it’s safe to assume O’Connor hasn’t merely forgotten where she’s come from, considering she’s steadily having a monumental impact in the very state in which she grew up.
To her credit, Sylvia O’Connor SOAR LLC has become a fixture, especially in Louisiana, where it customarily services individuals and groups ranging in ages 18-to-75.
“(My personal mission is centered on) letting people know that it is never too late to have your dreams come true,” said O’Connor, the architect of Living The Abundant Life: 9 Principles To Move From Poverty To Prosperity who will be the featured author during the National Black Book Festival in Houston October 26-27 at Fallbrook Church. “Sometimes to move up in life, you have to move out of your comfort zone. I moved out of my comfort zone when I left Louisiana after I graduated from high school to seek a better life in Detroit Michigan. My aunt’s guidance and support are what helped me to succeed in life.”
Such a riveting, feel-good story, to her credit, practically sums why no one, really, can thoroughly explain O’Connor’s life-altering journey the way she can.
If we’re being honest, of course.
LIVING IN ABUNDANCE
“As satisfying as that was, I am even more excited about my new endeavor,” O’Connor said of her career change. “(I thrive off of) helping other people move past their roadblocks and limitations, whether that be financial, educational, emotional, or spiritual. I know that if you can believe it, you can achieve it.”
Something to which she can greatly attest, given how God is steadily using her for His glory.
“From a small city in Louisiana to Michigan and back to Louisiana,” said O’Connor, “from poverty to prosperity, to meeting people in various walks of life that have encouraged me to never give up which is why I want to encourage others to not let your past determine your future.”
