Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV)
ONE SHINING MOMENT

Paula M. Karll was asked recently to assess how 2024 for her had unfolded.
“This past year has been a rollercoaster, yet rewarding despite all odds,” Karll recalls. “As I reflected on this question — ‘How this past year has gone’ — particularly any challenges, I had to overcome. It was difficult for me to answer that question because, recently, I had to decide for my family a change in my career and business as a professional cosmetologist.”
Still, despite the assortment of obstacles that occasionally arose in her life to challenge her faith, Karll managed to persevere in such a way that, at times, she appeared unaffected by the hurdles by which she had to clear.
By all accounts, it is due in large to her steadfast commitment to the education sector that this esteemed Chicago philanthropist has been named Making Headline News’ International Women’s Day Woman of the Year for 2025.
SALUTE TO WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH 2025
Originally called the International Working Women’s Day, this day is celebrated annually on March 8 and customarily commemorates the movement for women’s rights.
According to https://www.internationalwomensday.com/, organizations and individuals around the world have collectively become committed to helping women and girls achieve their ambitions, challenge conscious and unconscious bias, as well as call for gender-balanced leadership and value women and men’s contributions equally.
In addition, this day was designed in part to create inclusive flexible cultures. From awareness-raising to concrete action, organizations rallied their people to pledge support to help forge gender parity on International Women’s Day and beyond, according to a spokesperson for IWD.

In what could appropriately be described as a banner 2024, Karll garnered high praise for having composed the book, compose The Adventures of Ellie and Eve: Ellie Meets A New Friend.
A book that debuted in February 2025, Karll — an award-winning children’s book author, special education teacher, devoted wife, and mother of two “beautiful” daughters — emphasized, among other things, the importance of why children must always be kind and helpful to others.
“(They should) be open to making new friends with people who may not look like you,” Karll told MHN during a January interview. “The most important reason why I chose to produce this book is to encourage children to be mindful of the differences that exist among their friends. It’s helpful for them to understand that some children, because of physical abilities, may move and play differently.”
LEAST WE FORGET
As for being dubbed Making Headline News’ International Women’s Day Woman of the Year for 2025, Karll described the news as ecstatic, for the most part.
“When I received the news that I would be named Making Headline News International Women’s Day Woman of the Year for 2025, I was surprised that I was chosen for this recognition, yet happy to be honored in this way,” Karll said. “When someone sees something incredible in your work ethics, it means a lot. To be recognized as the International Women’s Day Woman of the Year for 2025 is an honor to have this recognition to share with my children.”
Looking ahead, Karll doesn’t shy away from the notion that she’s destined to go about inspiring women to broaden their horizon and maximize their potential — both in the education and entrepreneurial arenas.
“I recently opened SD Beauty Emporium, a black-owned beauty supply store,” Karll told MHN. “And one of the ways I want to inspire women is through finding alternative solutions for hair restoration, options to choose to enhance their hair care regimen, and obtaining cosmetic & beauty essentials.”
