THIS GUY’S DA TRUTH

Jay Vinson’s got something he’d like to get off of his chest.
For all the right reasons, too.
“As a college Sport Management instructor, Amazon best-selling author of More Than A Game: Mental Excellence for Athletes & Leaders, and non-clinical mental wellness advocate, I am helping shape the next generation of athletes by teaching athlete mental wellness in higher education while equipping coaches, athletes, and leaders with practical tools for resilience, leadership, and performance,” Vinson, a Lithia Springs, Georgia-based philanthropist told Making Headline News during a recent interview.
“With mental health becoming one of the biggest conversations in sports, (my brand is centered largely on) how education, leadership, and real-world experience are coming together to prepare athletes for success both on and off the field. The goal is to position the book as a resource for athletes, coaches, athletic departments, and universities across the country.
So far, so good for Vinson whom, to his credit, is steadily evolving as a nationally-acclaimed advocate for mental wellness, particularly for athletes from various walks of life.
“It’s time to turn it up and bring some awareness around (through my platform),” Vinson said. “It’s already enough madness that the news bringing awareness around.”

Named Making Headline News Man of The Year for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year in 2025, Vinson emphasized, among other things, he’s hopeful his latest book, More Than A Game: Mental Excellence For Athletes & Leaders, will greatly serve as an essential driving force to help spread his awe-inspiring message on mental wellness — most notably from a global standpoint.
“Too often, we focus on physical performance while ignoring the mind, identity, and emotional health of the athlete,” Vinson told MHN during a recent interview. “I wanted to create something that helps athletes understand they are more than their sport. The book is designed to help athletes, coaches, and leaders strengthen their mental approach to performance, leadership, resilience, and life beyond sports. My goal wasn’t simply to write another sports book, but to provide a practical resource that helps people develop the mindset needed to succeed both on and off the field.”

That Vinson, an Auburn University alum, has joined the faculty staff at the University of West Georgia, by all accounts, has benefited him mightily, especially with regards to shining the spotlight on his unparallel mental wellness message on college campuses.
A course that is suitably known as Athlete Mental Wellness Management, Vinson said it is one of the first undergraduate courses of its kind.
“The course equips future sport professionals with practical strategies to understand athlete mental wellness, reduce stigma, identify warning signs, and build healthier athletic environments,” Vinson said. “It reflects the growing recognition that mental wellness is just as important as physical performance.”
Interestingly enough, since he emerged as an advocate for mental wellness among athletes, Vinson has been afforded the luxury of inheriting a steady increase of valiant supporters around the country, many of whom have thoroughly embraced his distinctly unique message.
“Over the past several years, athlete mental wellness has become one of the most important conversations in sports,” Vinson said. “Athletes today face pressures from competition, academics, social media, NIL opportunities, injuries, and life outside of sports. More organizations are recognizing that supporting an athlete’s mental well-being is essential to long-term success. I believe education and proactive wellness strategies are key to creating healthier athletes and stronger leaders.”
Also, through Vinson’s JV Athlete Advisory Services, he’s afforded golden opportunities to work with student-athletes, families, coaches, and schools by providing non-clinical mental wellness education, leadership development, NIL education, career planning, and personal branding guidance.
“My mission is to help athletes develop into successful individuals, not just successful competitors, by preparing them for life during and after sports,” Vinson said.

Looking ahead, Vinson announced that he is currently taking part in his doctorate dissertation research on high school football coaches’ mental wellness.
“As part of my Ed.D. in Sports Leadership, my dissertation will explore the mental health challenges and coping strategies of high school football coaches,” Vinson told MHN. “Coaches often carry tremendous responsibility while managing pressure from competition, parents, administration, and player development, yet their own mental wellness is rarely discussed. My research aims to better understand those challenges and identify strategies that can support coaches while strengthening the overall culture of athletic programs.”
