Dr. Stephens’ newly-released anthology is her fifth book in the I AM A BLACK WOMAN: THE GREATNESS WITHIN INTERNATIONAL literary series and movement.
“Each book in the series has represented another chapter in the evolution of the movement,” Dr. Stephens told MHN. “The 2027 international installment takes the message even further by creating a global platform for black women to share their stories and celebrate the greatness within them.”

As Dr. Stephens vividly recalls, such an empowering movement surrounding the production of her anthology began with a vision.
“The books became the vehicle,” Dr. Stephens said. “The message became the movement.”
In essence, what began as a vision, Dr. Stephens acknowledged, essentially developed into a literary movement that has continued to evolve over the years.
“The vision for I AM A BLACK WOMAN came from a desire to take that message beyond geographic boundaries and create an international platform where black women could recognize the common threads connecting our experiences while also celebrating the uniqueness of our individual journeys,” Dr. Stephens said. “I believe God gave me this vision because there was — and continues to be — a need for intentional spaces where our stories can be told from our own perspectives rather than being defined by someone else’s interpretation. This movement did not begin with this book. It began in 2018 with a vision.”
Much to the delight of Dr. Stephens, it is an incredibly brilliant vision, one that figures to help enrich and impact lives for generations to come.
“The underlying reason I chose to produce this book was to change the narrative,” Dr. Stephens told MHN. “For generations, black women have often been defined by narratives created by other people. I wanted to create an intentional literary space where Black women could speak for themselves—to tell their stories, celebrate their accomplishments, acknowledge their challenges, and declare their greatness.
“With THE GREATNESS WITHIN INTERNATIONAL, I wanted to take that message even further. Black women across the world have powerful stories that deserve to be heard. Their experiences may be different geographically and culturally, but there are common threads of resilience, faith, leadership, sacrifice, achievement, perseverance, and transformation.”
