SPREADING SISTERLY LOVE

Dr. Sharnell Myles is a beloved Philly native.
By all accounts, she’s undoubtedly proud to say it, especially when referencing her old stomping ground that is South Philadelphia.
“I am originally from South Philadelphia,” Dr. Myles, during an interview this week with Making Headline News, said, recalling how her upbringing in her native establishment has greatly benefited her life. “Growing up in Philadelphia shaped my resilience, work ethic, cultural awareness, and commitment to creating opportunities for girls and women who may not always recognize the power of their own possibilities.”
Indeed, it has for Dr. Myles, the mastermind behind The Clinical Legacy Group, her featured business endeavor that is widely regarded as a women-centered executive consulting and advisory firm, one that has become a fixture for customarily serving behavioral-health leaders, founders, clinicians, and various organizations.

“We help women move beyond simply operating a practice or program to building a sustainable, well-structured enterprise,” Dr. Myles, 49, told MHN. “Our work focuses on executive advisory, clinical and operational excellence, leadership development, sustainable growth, and legacy strategy. We help organizations strengthen their infrastructure, elevate the quality of care, prepare for growth, develop high-performing leaders, improve compliance, and create systems that can thrive beyond the founder.”
Interestingly enough, the philosophy surrounding The Clinical Legacy Group, Dr. Myles acknowledged, is captured in a trio of compelling, life-altering words: Build. Scale. Legacy.
Besides overseeing the day-to-day operations of a flourishing firm, Dr. Myles could be appropriately described as a woman of many hats, given she is the executive director for Social Justice Café for Girls, Inc., a credible nonprofit organization.

Founded in 2016, Social Justice Café for Girls is designed to provide girls —particularly girls of color, Myles said —with safe spaces to discuss social issues, develop leadership skills, engage with pioneering women, participate in cultural exchange, and complete meaningful service and social-impact projects.
Generally, the organization has served girls domestically and internationally through mentoring, advocacy, global travel, and community engagement.
“Given our current political landscape, the SJC4G proves how revolutionary organizations such as this are to young females, particularly those who have survived various traumas,” Dr. Myles explained. “Together, these organizations serve women and girls at different stages of development.”
In addition, Social Justice Café for Girls customarily empowers girls to recognize their respective voices and possibilities while The Clinical Legacy Group helps women transform their expertise into influential organizations, sustainable enterprises, and enduring professional legacies.
“Today, they make women unstoppable,” Dr. Myles said.
Having earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Community and Clinical Psychology from Norfolk State University, Dr. Myles subsequently acquired a Doctor of Psychology Degree from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta, this after she earned a second Master’s.

To her credit, she has assembled what could be appropriately described as an immeasurable professional development, one that included study through Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, coupled with specialized training in trauma treatment, regulatory compliance, accreditation, healthcare quality, clinical leadership, and behavioral-health operations.
“My education has always extended beyond the classroom — nearly three decades of leading organizations, treating trauma, building programs, influencing policy, and mentoring emerging leaders have been equally instrumental in shaping my expertise,” Dr. Myles said.
For what it’s worth, Dr. Myles doesn’t shy away from the notion that her competitive entrepreneurial drive has never been about outperforming someone else.
“It has been about refusing to allow trauma, adversity, limited expectations, or systemic barriers to determine what is possible for me…or for the girls and women I serve,” Dr. Myles said.
In a nutshell, she said, her upbringing in the City of Brotherly Love has greatly helped propelled her to maximize her potential, something she admittedly doesn’t take lightly.
“Growing up in South Philadelphia taught me to be resilient, resourceful, and unafraid of hard work,” Dr. Myles told MHN. “As a teenager, I experienced trauma that could have altered the direction of my life. Instead of allowing that pain to define or defeat me, I transformed it into a deeper understanding of survival, healing, and the importance of ensuring that young people have safe spaces, trusted adults, and opportunities to envision lives beyond their circumstances. My experiences did not make the journey easy, but they helped give my work purpose.”
FULFILLING HER DESTINY

Continued Dr. Myles:
“Throughout my career, I was often the only woman, the only African American, or the only African American woman in a room, at a table, or in a leadership position. Advancing professionally frequently felt like an uphill battle. I understood that I would sometimes have to work harder, prepare more thoroughly, and demonstrate my value repeatedly, even when I brought expertise, perspective, and leadership capabilities to the table that many others did.”
