HUMBLE, Texas — For the first since his organization’s inception, Where Men Hurt founder and chief executive officer Andrew J. Landry has announced that he’s hosting a social justice townhall.
Powered by Where Men Hurt, the social justice townhall will take place on August 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the FountainBlu Banquet and Event Center — located at 6327 Spencer Highway in nearby Pasadena, Texas — and will be preceded by the Third Annual Where Men Hurt Conference.
LET’S UNPACK THIS ISSUE
A one-day, spiritual empowerment assembly that’s centered largely on equipping the total man to become all that God has predestined him to be, the Where Men Hurt Conference will take place the following at from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CST at the same venue.
An assembly Landry senses is essential for such a time as now, the townhall will be comprised of what Where Men Hurt officials describe as a social justice — or injustice — panel during which they will engage in discussions with area law enforcement officials.
“The purpose is to have Q and A (dialogue) with law enforcement (officials) about strategies and policies that affect the community,” said Landry, explaining the purpose for the townhall. “(This townhall is designed to) give an opportunity to get the vantage point of both sides to help repair the relationship between the community and the law enforcement.”
Since word spread of Where Men Hurt spearheading its first townhall, Landry and his staff have become the beneficiaries of a rash of favorable feedback, in large part because the African-American community has been victimized by what is seemingly ongoing social unrest in around the country in recent years.
By the time this story was published, Where Men Hurt officials were unclear as to which dignitaries and local officials will attend the townhall, although Landry emphasized he’s hopeful to attract a few area politicians.
Following the townhall, Where Men Hurt will host what is known as the Bingo Extravaganza Fundraiser.
The cost is $50 for 20 games and each entrant will receive two sets of cards, according to WMH officials. “We have an abundance of prizes like Apple watches, Yeti, fishing gear, sports tickets, and more, Landry said.
