Sham Poore is following in some pretty massive, historic footsteps.
To her credit, she’s doing a pretty masterful job of carrying the family baton in the process.
A rising Mid-South-area businesswoman, Poore — whose actual name is La’Shambriel — is owner and chief executive officer of Dinner Dates Catering, an up-and-coming catering venture in which Poore customarily utilizes what she describes as her “God-given talents” by providing clients excellent food, accompanied by outstanding professionalism and dynamic customer service.
A native of Hollandale, Mississippi, Poore, 30, who currently resides in Olive Branch — or approximately 20 minutes from Memphis — found her passion and niche for cooking while growing up and watching her mother and grandmother service people across the country with their dynamically scrumptious and delectable meals.
Poore’s mother, in fact, is widely known throughout the famous Mississippi Delta region for her well-renowned business, Grown Woman Catering, a popular food-service establishment that has been in operations for more than two decades.
“I’m following in her footsteps, from traveling catering, to preparing meals for celebrities,” Poore told Making Headline News during a recent interview. “It really motivates me to take my business to the highest possible level. As you can see, I am a product of a great line of Southern Chefs.”

To her distinct credit, Poore is certainly holding her own — and making her mother and grandmother proud — as an accomplished chef-turned-businesswoman.
For starters, Poore boasts the educational pedigree, which has greatly enabled her to become knowledgeable about the pros and cons of how to successfully operate a business in this ever-so-popular social media era.
A 2003 Simmons (Mississippi) High School graduate who was her class’ Salutatorian, Poore is a product of Delta State University, where she declared a double major before graduating with degrees in Sports Management and General Business Administration.
Consequently, Poore advanced her education when she enrolled in Clinton, Iowa-based Ashford University, where she ultimately earned a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management in February 2014.
Interesting enough, Poore’s educational accolades have greatly proven beneficial to her, considering Dinner Dates Catering has become a fixture throughout the Mid-South much like her mother’s popular establishment in what Mississippians call the “Sip.”
“The competitive drive in sports taught me discipline, hard work, sacrifice, overcoming adversity, how to deal with success and failure, and the value of practice and preparation,” said Poore, who lettered in varsity at Hollandale and frequently kept stats for the school’s baseball team. “What I like most about my business is meeting new people and seeing their reactions when they taste my food.”
Fortunately for Poore, her food is customarily embraced by people all across the country, most notably as far as Houston, Dallas, Gulfport, Mississippi, and New Orleans.
And, with the summer months approaching, the possibility exists that she will be fielding countless calls from consumers inquiring about her services, which include cooking classes, corporate events, meal prep, weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, social events and festivals, and family dinner preparation for those on the go.
Oh, and let’s not forget dinner dates for those looking to — you know — to set the mood and spice up their love life.
“It is imperative that I esteem and inspire others daily, because I want everyone to fulfill all of their dreams and become extremely successful throughout their lifetime,” Poore said. “I pray that everyone becomes the best versions of themselves they can possibly be. I do traveling catering, meal preparation, complete dinner preparation, healthy alternatives, dinner plates, vegan dishes, as well as single orders.”
Oh, and let’s not forget dinner dates for those looking to — you know — set the mood and spice up their love life.
