From a spiritual perspective, purpose is a deterrent to a premature death.
To her credit, Sylinda Mumphery greatly understands — and embraces — this pivotal analogy.
That is amongst the factors that have greatly inspired Mumphery to host her inaugural “Walking In My Purpose Summer Conference” in her native hometown of Cordele, Georgia.
The event, which will take on Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is powered by Mumphery’s Girls To Pearl Mentoring Program and is free and open to the public, although attendees were required to register online at www.sylindad.com.
Registration has since ended, said a spokesperson for the conference.
This empowerment conference will feature four speakers, each of whom will enlighten attendees on the importance of what it means to walk in their purpose.
In addition, the event will include prizes, food, games, and more. Also scheduled to be on hand is a credible martial arts instructor and renowned Atlanta-based businesswoman Kendra Turner.
A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Turner is a domestic violence survivor and founder of S. O. D. A, or Survivors Of Domestic Abuse.
“I’ve had several conferences (in Cordele) with the girls, but this will be the first summer conference,” Mumphery told Making Headline News during a weekend interview. “We are also giving away clothes and shoes. I am excited.”
Based in Atlanta and popularly known as “Sylinda D,” Mumphery is owner and CEO of SylindaD, LLC and is widely known as the founder of Removing The Bandages Women Movement.
In addition, she is a notable author, mentor, motivational speaker, and an Atlanta-based radio talk show host.
“My program is geared towards many areas to teach young girls the art of becoming as they learn to walk in their purpose and power,” Mumphery said.
Interesting enough, an assortment of vital, informative topics will be addressed during her six-hour conference, Mumphery said.
“We will speak on teen domestic violence, bullying, teen sex and abstinence, entrepreneurship, self-esteem building, sex trafficking and more,” she said. “They will be served lunch and receive little gift bags. I really enjoy mentoring and desire to reach as many young girls as possible.”
For good measure, that Mumphery is being afforded to host her inaugural conference in her native hometown is an added bonus.
“I take the program home as much as possible, because the girls there have no outlet, no teen centers or anything to do,” Mumphery said. “It’s my way of giving back.”
