Every time Velinda Hudson Humphreys turns around, God just keeps on blessing her.
And, as a result, she deems it essential to pay it forward.
A Mid-South-area professional cosmetologist whose notable career spans more than 25 years, Humphreys has become a fixture in this ever-so-competitive and evolving industry, especially in her native establishment of Memphis, where individuals becoming engaged in cosmetology undoubtedly is one the market’s most popular trends.
That, after all, is amongst the reasons Humphreys, the owner and CEO of Styles With Smiles Senior Haircare, had become inspired some time ago to launch a promotion that would benefit her clients, particularly elderly customers.
Humphreys will be offering free hair service through a monthly drawing, she told Making Headline News this week.
The promo will involve her collecting names through the first 10 days of each month, then drawing a winner approximately five days later.
The winner will be the beneficiary of basic services, not including chemicals or braids, Humphreys said.
“Because every one can’t afford to go out to get their hair styled,” said Humphreys, when asked why she initiated the promotion.
By and large, the passion for what she’s adopted as a professional hair stylist plays a major role for wanting to give back to those in her community, Humphreys said.
A business that essentially is in its infancy stages, Styles With Smiles Senior Haircare is a mobile beauty salon designed to service elderly individuals as well as those who are unable to leave the confines of their homes and visit salons the traditional way.
Humphreys’ mobile salon is especially ideal for handicapped and individuals with special needs.
“I enjoy what I do, and want to make everyone aware of my services,” Humphreys, a Memphis Hamilton High graduate, said. “Plus it’s my way of giving back. This is my first (year for the promotion), but it will be annually… once a month for the entire year. All it cost me is time.”
As far as Humphreys is concerned, every little bit of time counts, even when one pays it forward.
“Everyone is not as fortunate as others,” Humphreys said. “I’m not where I want to be either, but I can do something to put a smile on the face of others. That makes me happy as well. I don’t have much to offer, but I can offer my time.”
