I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalm 34:1 NKJV)
CLOSER WALK WITH JESUS
Just as the weekend was approaching, Rena Smith took to her Facebook page, where she posted a rather spirited, awe-inspiring declaration.
Said Smith before her gallery of social media followers: To God Be The Glory…Even in the midst of LIFE’s challenges, GOD’s never failing love remains. Who would’ve imagined little ‘ole me (not even the strongest singer in the family) releasing a single — only by GOD’s grace.
A devout woman of faith who has appropriately adopted as a personal mantra, “Growing CLOSER to GOD is life’s top priority,” Smith is mastermind of the newly-released gospel hit, “Closer,” which debuted August 21.
A spiritually-empowering song that is produced by Devon Campbell of New Vibe Productions, Smith’s “Closer” was written and produced during this unprecedented global pandemic. Much to the delight of Smith, it has been as good as advertised and is available on all digital outlets.
“This pandemic caused social distancing and separation,” Smith, during a weekend interview with Making Headline News, said, explaining what fueled her desire to orchestrate her new single. “I kept thinking, ‘Lord, we may be separated from one another at this time, but I don’t ever want to be separated from You and Your love.’ It was then that He placed a song on my heart.”

And, the rest, as they say, was history.
Smith, as a result, wasted little time sending her creative masterpiece to Campbell, her son-in-law, and from that point on, “Closer” was very much closer to coming full circle.
“I told him to put some music with it,” Smith said. “(It was) just something I wanted to keep for myself.”
Still, because of the divine calling on her life, Smith couldn’t keep to herself her newfound project, given it is a little more than a week removed from its ceremonious release.
“God gave me this song for a reason,” Smith, a native of Loris, South Carolina said, alluding to the familiar Biblical passage that is Jeremiah 29:11. So whatever His reason, I trust His plan.”
Inspired by her husband, Roger D. Smith, her daughter, Shenina Campbell, her son-in-law, Devon Campbell, and a host of friends and close acquaintances to move forward with her latest musical project, Smith’s newly-released project came as a “total surprise” to number of individuals whom, for years, have followed her immeasurable spiritual gift of singing.
“The love and support shown by them brought me to tears,” Smith said.

A big-hearted, beloved woman of God who has become a fixture at Abundant Life Church of The Living God — which is Pastored by Bishop Kenneth Foxworth — Smith is no stranger to gospel singing, considering her brilliant gift to the Body of Christ dates back to her childhood.
Interestingly, Smith and her sisters, Angela Grissett and Zella Parker, have sang collectively for years or, as she tells it, “back in the day,” to put it more precisely.
Smith is currently a member of Voices Of Praise, her home church’s choir whereby she’s also a dedicated praise team member.
IN HIS PRESENCE
A 1985 graduate of Loris High School, Smith — whose presently works as a Human Resource Specialist — earned an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from Horry-Georgetown Technical College in 1987.
As for her newly-released song, Smith emphasized, “My prayer is this song will touch someone’s heart and they will desire to strengthen their relationship with God and get closer and closer to Him.”
As for whether her song spans the nation or, perhaps, the globe, Smith admittedly isn’t concerned about such a trend. Her primary concerned, she said, is to please the Almighty God.
“I’m not focused on going all over the nation,” Smith says without hesitation. “I just want God to be pleased and one day hear Him say, ‘well done.’”
Amen…and Amen.
