Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. (Philippians 2:3 NIV)
AN ANSWER TO A PROBLEM
Michelle Larkin is a self-proclaimed problem solver.
Given the immeasurable strides she’s made in this ever-so-competitive real estate industry, she’s essentially earned the right to assume such a notable title.
“I am a problem solver. I help solve real estate problems,” Larkin, an accomplished Maryland real estate agent and investor told Making Headline News during a recent interview.
Suitably known as a real estate “expert” and investor, Larkin, 42, has become a fixture in her profession for customarily purchasing unwanted properties, particularly those in foreclosure or properties that need a considerable amount of work, etc., she emphasized.
“I turn nightmares into dream homes,” Larkin said without hesitation. “I also help other investors do the same and guide those who would like to own real estate through the process of ownership.”
Interestingly, Larkins offers what is known as a rent-to-own program whereby clients can “rent to own” until they are ready to buy. In addition, she routinely hosts what is known as down payment assistance programs for those who do have the essential financial resources. According to Larkin, these programs typically cover 100 percent of their down payment.
“I love solving problems,” said Larkin, when asked what she loves the most about her featured business venture. “I love helping people and educating them on real estate in general, rather it be purchasing a home to live in or purchasing an investment property.”
What’s even more intriguing, Larkin acknowledged, is that virtually anyone can learn the pros and cons of real estate.
“Anyone can learn real estate,” she said. “Even my teenage sons are very familiar with the business. Anyone over the age of 18 can purchase real estate.”
To her credit, a majority of Larkin’s sustained success in real estate has been amassed in the greater DMV district, or what is famously known as the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia areas.
In fact, Larkin said plans are in the works to expand business in Maryland and Virginia in the foreseeable future.
Armed with a Maryland real estate license, Larkin is currently a student of Armando Montelongo as part of the TV show, Flip this House.
A native of Annapolis, Maryland — Anne Arundel County, to put it more precisely — Larkin is a graduate of Annapolis’ Broadneck High School. Consequently, she enrolled at American Intercontinental University in Atlanta. A proud alumna of Strayer University- Washington, DC, Larkin is a member of the Alpha Stigma Lambda (Iota Eta Chapter), widely regarded as the oldest and largest national honor society for Non-traditional students who achieve and maintain outstanding scholastic standards and leadership characteristics while adroitly handling additional responsibilities of work and family.
As for those who greatly inspired her to move forward with her entrepreneurial dream, Larkin said:
“I have many mentors. I believe in staying around those who are going or who have already been where you are trying to go. As far as inspiration, my family inspires me. My dad is a retired Annapolis entrepreneur, and I watched him build from nothing to something. I am seeing this entrepreneurship in my siblings, as well as my three young sons. I absolutely adore my family. My goal is to leave a family legacy.”
Without question, Larkin is doing just that in a profession that spans nearly two decades.

“(I’ve been active in real estate for) over 18 years…feels like a lifetime, but most of my adult life,” Larkin said. “I believe we all have gifts, and I believe in sharing my gift — which makes the world a better place. Knowing that I have helped someone along in their journey is what it’s all about for me.”
So far, so good for this thriving, progressive businesswoman, one who undoubtedly has earned the right to label herself a self-proclaimed problem solver.
