EDITOR’S NOTE: As college student athlete Dayronn Tucker looks ahead to earning his undergraduate degree in the coming weeks, Making Headline News deemed it necessary to label this story an NCAA Men’s Final Four Special Report.
CRUNCH TIME
Dayronn Tucker celebrated his 23rd birthday on April 2.
Nothing, he said, would be more gratifying than to fulfill his lofty ambition of playing professional basketball.
A former West Columbia Airport High School standout, Tucker spent that past four seasons at Columbia International University in South Carolina, a private, multi-denominational, Christian institution that is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
The Rams finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 20-13 record, including a 14-10 mark in conference play.
“There were some high and lows during the season,” Tucker told Making Headline News. “Overall, I’d say my play was solid.”

Still, the biggest mystery that looms is whether Tucker’s “solid” performance during his pivotal senior season was enough to attract the attention of pro scouts.
In some respects, it seemingly was.
According to Tucker, he has interacted with at least three sports agencies as he continues his fervent quest of making his long-awaited hoop dream a reality.
Tucker, in fact, has connected with Baseline Sports, Inc., a Los Angeles-based, full-service sports management and marketing agency that customarily represents some of the top athletes and coaches in professional basketball.
TUCKER IN ACTION
In essence, Baseline Sports, Inc. has become a fixture for setting what company officials has dubbed “the industry benchmark” in providing its clients with unparalleled personal attention and service. This agency, which represents numerous FIBA, NBA G-League, NBL Canada, and TBL standouts, works to assist its athletes in reaching their maximum potential, professionally and personally, according to a detailed synopsis of this company at http://baselinesportsinc.com/.
Besides Baseline Sports, Inc., Tucker has connected with People In Sport, an agency known for giving an overview of all players who work with people n sport, and Pro Connect, an agency that routinely provides basketball players the opportunity to play professionally, receive exposure, or network with certified FIBA and NBA agents internationally.
“If I make it to the professional level, I will first give God all the glory and honor,” Tucker told MHN. “Then I’ll continue to work on my game for a successful professional career.”

Ever since his mother, Veronica Tucker, first placed a basketball in her son’s hands when he essentially was too young to remember, Tucker has gone to great lengths to pattern this game after five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant.
“Basketball is something I’ve always love to do and was good at,” Tucker, told Making Headline News during a July 2020 interview. “Kobe is a key reason why I wanted to go pro. His passion for the game rubbed off on me and to see the impact he had on people was crazy.”
By all accounts, Tucker is confident his play this past season at CIU has increased his stock in signing with an agent, he acknowledged.
“I feel I’m able to think the game (through) more, not rushing, but letting the game come to me,” Tucker, a 6-foot-1 guard, said. “(My defensive mechanics) and playmaking have definitely improved this season.”
In his final collegiate season, Tucker averaged 9.3 points, six assists, and three rebounds for the Rams.
“Although I need to be more aggressive on the offensive side, my overall game is more polished,” said Tucker, assessing his performance as a senior.
Besides celebrating his 23rd birthday over the weekend, April undoubtedly is a big month for Tucker, who is scheduled to earn his degree on April 30.
More than anything, he hopes to accomplish another memorable feat by month’s end.
“Praying someone connect with me soon,” said Tucker, referring to his quest of hiring a sports agent. “I really want to show younger kids it’s possible to play professionally without going to a big school or averaging big numbers. Your dedication towards the game will show eventually. Just keep working and be great in the situation you’re in.”
Something to which he can greatly attest.
