NEW BOOK ALERT: Rising Washington, D.C. area author Sadija A. Smiley’s ‘After The Silence’ book is as good as advertised

Andre Johnson March 16, 2026

We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. (Romans 15:1/KJV)

HER SISTERS’ KEEPER

FULFILLING HER DIVINE PURPOSE — Washington, D.C. area author Sadija A. Smiley is the architect of After The Silence: 7 Gentle Reminders For Mothers Healing After Pregnancy Loss, her riveting, informative book that, much to her delight, has set off a fervent buzz across various message boards and social media platforms.

Prior to this year, Sadija A. Smiley’s authorship adventure was comprised of having collaborated with a pair of anthologies.

Never in her life, she admitted, did she ever envision manufacturing a solo-authored project.

To her credit, that all changed recently.

That’s because the Washington, D.C. area businesswoman has witnessed the ceremonious release of After The Silence: 7 Gentle Reminders For Mothers Healing After Pregnancy Loss, her riveting, informative book that, much to her delight, has set off a fervent buzz across various message boards and social media platforms.

MAJOR MUST READ — An emotionally-driven, fascinating read that is accompanied by 68 pages, Smiley’s After The Silence: 7 Gentle Reminders For Mothers Healing After Pregnancy Loss vividly enlightens her readers how pregnancy loss can leave you feeling isolated, unheard, and overwhelmed, according to a detailed synopsis of this author’s book via Amazon.com.

Smiley is the Executive Director of Stillborn And Infant Loss Support, her rising Washington, D.C.-metropolitan area organization that has become a fixture for customarily providing a credible platform of community, mentorship, education, and advocacy to families impacted by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby before his/her first birthday.

Smiley’s After The Silence: 7 Gentle Reminders For Mothers Healing After Pregnancy Loss is available at https://iamsadijasmiley.com/, https://bornintosilence.org/, Amazon, or where books are sold.

“The interesting thing is that I didn’t know I was writing a book at first,” Smiley told Making Headline News as part of its annual Salute To Women’s History Month 2026 celebration. “After the stillbirth of my daughter, I journaled a lot as a way to cope with my grief. I wrote poems, reflections, and prayers during some of my hardest moments. At the time, I wasn’t writing with the intention of publishing anything, I was simply trying to survive my loss and find a way to process the pain.”

BORN TO WIN

MASTERFUL JOB — For her valiant efforts, Smiley has fielded an assortment of favorable feedback since the release of her solo-authored project.

An emotionally-driven, fascinating read that is accompanied by 68 pages, Smiley’s After The Silence: 7 Gentle Reminders For Mothers Healing After Pregnancy Loss vividly enlightens her readers how pregnancy loss can leave you feeling isolated, unheard, and overwhelmed, according to a detailed synopsis of this author’s book via Amazon.com.

“When the world goes quiet and people around you don’t know how to help, you’re left trying to hold your grief alone,” said an Amazon spokesperson for Smiley’s highly-anticipated written work. After The Silence is a compassionate guide for anyone navigating pregnancy loss or supporting someone they love.”

Not only that, readers of Smiley’s published masterpiece will cross paths with her awe-inspiring personal story, one in which chronicles how “the loss” changed her, not to mention her “seven gentle reminders” that helped her rebuild her voice, strength, and hope.

“These reminders now support families around the country through one of the hardest moments of their lives,” Smiley said per Amazon. “This book gives you simple, healing guidance you can use right away.”

Such life-altering guidance is centered largely on — but isn’t limited to — the following strategic concepts:

  • Ways to honor your baby and protect your healing
  • Language that helps you express your needs
  • Support for navigating triggers, anxiety, and emotional waves
  • Encouragement grounded in compassion, not clichés
  • Tools for partners, friends, and loved ones who want to support better and,
  • The lived experience behind each reminder and how they came to be

“You’ll close this book feeling seen, supported, and grounded,” said an Amazon spokesperson for Smiley’s After The Silence. “Readers walk away with clarity, comfort, and renewed hope, knowing they are not alone and their grief is valid.”

Of course, After The Silence is not a clinical textbook, a quick fix, or forced positivity, Smiley acknowledged.

“It’s a real conversation from someone who has been there, offering gentle guidance to help you heal at your own pace,” she said via Amazon. “Years later, in 2020, I began thinking about writing a book that could encourage other women who had experienced pregnancy or infant loss. I started writing from scratch several times over the next five years, but I would stop and start again because something never quite felt right. I eventually realized that I wasn’t meant to start over, and that it wasn’t time for me to write a memoir.

SALUTING WOMEN WHO SHAPE OUR WORLD

“When I went back and reviewed my old journal entries and poems, something powerful happened,” Smiley continued. “I began to notice that many of those writings contained gentle reminders for women navigating this kind of loss. In that moment, it felt like God was bringing those words back to my attention and showing me that the message had already been written through my healing journey. That was when the vision for After The Silence became clear.”

For her valiant efforts, Smiley has fielded an assortment of favorable feedback since the release of her solo-authored project.

“The feedback has been deeply moving and meaningful,” Smiley told MHN. “Many women have shared that the book feels like someone finally understands their grief. Some have told me they cried while reading it because the words reflected emotions they had struggled to express themselves. Others have said the reminders helped them feel seen, validated, and less alone in their healing journey.”

Smiley witnessed her authorship debut come to fruition in 2019 when she was co-author for the anthology, Finding Joy in The Journey: Healthy Ways To Navigate Grief. Consequently, she collaborated with the anthology, Your Wings Were Ready But My Heart Was Not: A Tribute to Our Loved Ones, the following year.

BEACON OF LIGHT

MOVEMENT ON THE MOVE — Smiley is the Executive Director of Stillborn And Infant Loss Support, her rising Washington, D.C.-metropolitan area organization that has become a fixture for customarily providing a credible platform of community, mentorship, education, and advocacy to families impacted by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby before his/her first birthday.

Additional published works, she said, are on the horizon.

“Yes, I do plan to continue writing,” Smiley said. “There are many layers to grief, healing, leadership, and purpose that I feel called to explore through future books. Some of my upcoming ideas include deeper reflections on healing after loss and resources that support communities learning how to better care for grieving families.”
