JOURNEY WORTH TAKING

As Breena Brooks Lewis vividly recalls, her sophomore book project essentially had been two decades in the making.
All that matters, to her credit, is that her latest published gem has finally come full circle.
“God led me to write the book in 2006 but only gave me a partial vision at that time,” Brooks Lewis recalls. “The story unfolded over the course of 20 years when the final manuscript was completed and published in 2026.”
The book to which Brooks Lewis is alluding is Lessons From Mama: A Journey Through Healing, Identity, Love & Marriage, her long-awaited second written work that made its ceremonious debut in April 2026.
As part of Making Headline News’ 2026 Essence Music Festival advance national coverage for “the party with a purpose” event July 3-5 in New Orleans, Brooks Lewis spoke at length about how her latest book stems from her life-altering testimony, one she hopes will greatly empower young women to avoid the rash of mistakes she made, thus help them carry the pain of divorce, heal to transform their lives, as well as their future relationships.
“Some marriages end quietly. Others take years of hoping, praying, and holding on before the door finally closes. This one took everything.” said a spokesperson for Brooks Lewis’ new book via Amazon.com. “In Lessons From Mama: A Journey Through Healing, Identity, Love & Marriage, Breena Brooks Lewis shares the deeply personal story of a life unraveled and rebuilt, from the early experiences that shaped her understanding of love, to the painful breakdown of a marriage, to the slow and honest work of rediscovering who she was meant to be.”

Also, with raw honesty and hard-earned wisdom, Brooks Lewis’ published masterpiece vividly explores the moments many women live through, but few openly talk about: heartbreak, loneliness, the patterns they repeat without realizing it, and the courage it takes to confront themselves and choose a different path forward.
“More than a memoir, Lessons From Mama is a journey of self-discovery, healing, and personal transformation,” said an Amazon spokesperson for Brooks Lewis’ new book. “Through reflection, faith, and hard-won insight, Breena invites readers to examine their own stories and begin writing a new chapter with clarity, strength, and hope.”
A native of Washington, DC, Brooks Lewis’ Lessons From Mama comes a little more than two decades after she made her authorship debut with the release of Daddy’s Girl, an informative children’s picture book.
For her valiant efforts amid her latest authorship heroics, Brooks Lewis has become the beneficiary of an assortment of rave reviews.
“The feedback I have received from women readers has been overwhelmingly positive,” Brooks Lewis told MHN. “Many identified areas in their own lives to improve, such as mindset changes, neglecting their own needs in a relationship, not having clear values and the need to love themselves more.”
Now with two books on the market, Brooks Lewis said additional written works are forthcoming.
“Two transformational coaching programs for women are in the works, and a new book will be released in 2027,” Brooks Lewis said. “I had opportunities to promote the book while co-hosting the Coaches Couch Podcast. Book signings and coffee events called, Java Talk, are currently being scheduled.”
When asked what makes her story unique, Brooks Lewis said:
“What makes my story unique is I openly and honestly admit my own shortcomings in an effort to help other women avoid my mistakes.”
