EDUCATION NEWS: Atlanta philanthropist Jay Vinson reaches All But Dissertation status, scheduled to acquire Doctoral Degree sometime in late 2027

Jay Vinson recalls like yesterday all of those dreaded nights he diligently held it down, all of those pressing times he felt like giving up — if he’s being honest.
All things considered, though, he steadfastly stayed true to himself, thus made every moment count in the process.
“This milestone represents a lot of late nights, sacrifice, discipline, research, writing, and perseverance while balancing teaching, working in sports,” recalls Vinson “and everything else that comes with the journey.”
The “journey” to which Vinson is alluding is his latest educational milestone, one that helped thrust the Atlanta-area empowerment professional to what is suitably known as the All But Dissertation status in the Doctor of Education program at Concordia University Chicago.

During an interview this week with Making Headline News, Vinson announced he will be pursuing an Ed.D. in Leadership with a specialization in Sports Leadership.
A Montgomery, Alabama native and Auburn University alum, Vinson’s latest achievement comes amid humble beginnings.
“Reaching ABD means I have successfully completed my doctoral coursework and comprehensive examination, and I am now entering the dissertation phase of the program,” Vinson, who holds a Master of Education in Instructional Technology and a Master of Science in Sport Management from the University of West Georgia, told MHN.
As Vinson explained, he initially learned of his long-awaited ABD status on September 16, a development that essentially gave way to a wave of emotions.
“My immediate reaction was a combination of gratitude, relief, and excitement,” Vinson said. “This journey has required discipline, sacrifice, late nights, and the ability to balance several professional responsibilities. I took a moment to thank God and reflect on how far I have come, but I also recognized that the work is not finished. Reaching ABD is a major milestone but completing the dissertation and earning the doctorate remain the ultimate goals.”
For Vinson, while his highly-anticipated accolade has finally come to fruition, he said now is the time to do the proverbial heavy lifting, of sorts.
In a nutshell, it’s time he makes good on the pledge he made to himself long before his undergraduate days.
The title of his proposed dissertation: Mental Wellness Challenges Among Former High School Football Coaches: Experiences and Management Strategies.
“Through this research, I hope to bring greater attention to the mental wellness of coaches an important population that is often expected to support everyone else while receiving limited support themselves,” said Vinson, a four-time recipient of Making Headline News Man of The Year (2022 through 2025).
Interestingly enough, Vinson doesn’t shy away from the notion that his gallery of supporters has played an integral role in his latest milestone, something he admittedly doesn’t take for granted.

“Among the first people I told were close family members, friends and business partners,” Vinson said. “These are people who have supported, encouraged, and prayed for me throughout my academic and professional journey. Their belief in me has been especially meaningful during the most demanding stages of the doctoral program.”
Vinson said a number of crucial factors played into his decision on where to complete his doctoral degree.
“I chose Concordia because the program closely aligned with my professional experience and long-term goals in sports leadership, higher education, athlete development, and mental wellness,” Vinson said. “The program has allowed me to study leadership through the lens of sport while continuing to work as an educator, adjunct instructor, author, and athlete advisor. It has also helped me strengthen my understanding of research and prepare to contribute meaningful scholarships to the sports industry.”
Now, the longtime faith leader and award-winning author said, the time has come to pursue what would be arguably his granted feat to date, a journey that is expected to end sometime in the latter stages of 2027.
“My timeline will depend on the dissertation research, approval, and defense process,” said Vinson, the founder and CEO of JV Athlete Advisory Institute. “But I am committed to maintaining the same focus and momentum that helped me reach ABD status.
“Reaching ABD strengthens my brand by adding greater academic depth and research credibility to the work I already do in athlete mental wellness, sports leadership, education, NIL education, and athlete development. My brand has always centered on helping athletes and leaders understand that success involves more than performance,” Vinson continued. “It also requires mental wellness, identity development, leadership, and preparation for life beyond sports. My doctoral research allows me to expand that mission by addressing the experiences of coaches, who also face pressure, stress, burnout, and other mental wellness challenges.”
