ON ONE ACCORD
For the second straight year, Washington, D.C. area empowerment extraordinaire Sadija Smiley will host what is known as the We Are ONE Survivor’s Summit.
The summit will take place on August 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
The founder and director of Stillborn And Infant Loss Support (or SAILS) — her notable and progressive Washington, D.C.-metropolitan area endeavor that is widely known for strategically providing a credible platform of community, mentorship, education, and advocacy to families impacted by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby before their first birthday — Smiley expects an even greater turnout for this year’s event, which will be a virtual assembly due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Powered by SAILS, Smiley’s annual summit is designed to unite people from all walks of life to support, encourage, and connect with others who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss, the businesswoman-turned-author told Making Headline News this week.

The Summit will includes talks from mental health and grief experts, parents who have experienced a loss, a disk jockey for a music interlude, and its online candlelight ceremony to “commemorate all of the babies who have gone on too soon,” Smiley told MHN.
Proceeds and any additional donations will be used to purchase a CuddleCot for the Greater Baltimore Medical Center to support bereaved families, allowing parents to spend time with their baby easing the transition from saying hello to saying goodbye, organizers for the We Are One Survivor’s Summit said.

“The purpose of this event is to support those that have been impacted by the loss of a baby and to educate the community,” Smiley, a native of West Philadelphia, said. “In these uncertain times, it’s even more important to connect with a community who understands. That’s why we’re bringing together an amazing group of men and women virtually to find guidance and healing from others who’ve had a baby leave too soon.”
Also, Smiley emphasized, proceeds and any additional donations will be used to purchase a CuddleCot for the Greater Baltimore Medical Center to support bereaved families, allowing parents to spend time with their baby, all while easing the transition from “saying hello to saying goodbye,” she said.
“This event creates a safe space for everyone that has experienced pregnancy loss or the death of their baby before their first birthday,” Smiley said. “It also creates an opportunity for others to learn ways to support a loved one, friend or family member that has experienced this type of loss.”
Feedback since Smiley announced Year No. 2 of her summit has been overwhelmingly favorable, as expected.
“The community is excited that we are going virtual,” Smiley said. “In the past, we have been asked to bring this event to other cities, as it was only hosted in Maryland. As a virtual event, people can join us from all over the world.”
Smiley established Stillborn And Infant Loss Support in memory of her Ivyanna Salene, her fallen angel, who passed away when she was just 36 weeks pregnant.
“To honor her life, I’ve founded a nonprofit organization,” Smiley told Making Headline News during a recent interview.
Generally, the strategic mission of Stillborn And Infant Loss Support is to provide other survivors with fervent support, particularly as they honor their child’s life while raising awareness.
