“Every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities. And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in a way that others might not see you, simply because they’ve never seen it before. And we will applaud you every step of the way.” — Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris
CHANGING A GENERATION
In case you don’t know her, Tinequa Bedford would like to introduce herself.
A native of Pacoima, California — one of the oldest neighborhoods in the northern San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles — Bedford, 48, operates full time in her credible ministry as an accomplished entrepreneur and the proud founder and CEO of Damaged Goods Organization, Inc.
A rising nonprofit organization that went into full operations in March 2018, Damaged Goods Organization’s chief emphasis is centered largely on helping rebuild those who are broken as a consequence of abuse, Bedford said during Making Headline News’ Woman Thou Art Loosed Virtual Experience coverage of Bishop T. D. Jakes’ annual event that took place in October.
“Tinequa was given a mission and vision by God to bring forth a foundation for the masses of victims who are physically and emotionally abused,” a spokesperson for Bedford’s Damaged Goods Organization, Inc. said.

Behind the valiant support of her husband, Alvin Bedford, Tinequa Bedford emphasized, among other things, that Damaged Goods Organization Inc. realizes abuse takes place in many forms, a trend that strategically reinforces why its services are inclusive, particularly as it relates to giving victims back their power and control that the perpetrator is on a mission to have.
Interestingly, Bedford cites a few notable facts to pertaining to support her stance on the war against domestic violence.
For instance, according to National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.
Also, the NCADC cites that 85 percent of domestic violence victims are women and that society and cultures have stopped men from coming forward.
“While we assist with all areas of abuse with emphasis on physical, emotional, verbal, mental and psychological, financial, cultural, sexual, our primary focus is domestic violence,” Bedford said.
Once deemed a self-proclaim “broken victim,” Bedford said the startup of Damaged Goods Organization, Inc. was essential in large part because it has helped bring about a sense of healing and deliverance.
Not only that, “(My organization has) set free, certified and qualified, appointed and anointed, given a vision, and watch God provide the provision advocate,” Bedford said. “My competitive attitude is this: It’s not a competition when it comes to getting lives free from abuse, only action because love is an action.”
Approximately two-and-a-half years removed from its inception, Damaged Goods Organization is designed to service people and groups of all ages.
“However, we champion single mother, head of household families, as well as men,” Bedford said. “Domestic violence is an epidemic, affecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality, or educational background.

“According to National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, witnessing violence between one’s parents or caretakers is the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next,” Bedford added. “Boys who witnessed domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults.”
Interestingly, Bedford cited, 30-to-60 percent of perpetrators of intimate partner violence also abused children in the household.
“Damaged Goods Organization Inc. is also involved in the senior community as well, because again, abuse does not care about background, degrees, sexual preference, but the goal is to control your life and thoughts,” Bedford emphasized.
In 2007, Bedford was placed in Lancaster, California through the Victims of Crime program during which she was hidden as a strategic way to rebuild her life after suffering through domestic violence for a span of 11 years.
Today, amongst the things about which Bedford can greatly attest is that she’s walking fervent in the divine purpose for which God has created her.
In December, Damaged Goods Organization Inc. will host its inaugural Toy Giveaway.
“We love the children and we understand it takes a village to raise them,” Bedford said.
Also, Bedford and her staff will host what is known as the Beauty In The Cocoon Conference and Fundraiser, an event that is scheduled for April 23-24.
This conference will consist of workshops and a host of speakers from around the country, some of whom have established their own nonprofit domestic violence-based organizations, Bedford said.
“(This conference will feature) testimonial speakers (who are) survivors,” Bedford said. “The goal of the conference is to bring awareness especially, to the Body of Christ.”
