Dallas/Fort Worth entrepreneur LaTambria Smith carries on her son’s memory through her thriving baking business

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story on Dallas/Fort Worth businesswoman LaTambria Smith was originally published by Making Headline News on October 11, 2017. Since the release of this story, Smith, a Dallas Skyline High graduate, has announced that she will be releasing a book that will recall her assortment of emotional testimonies, as well as host an empowerment conference that will take place at a date to be announced.

DALLAS — Back on February 8, one day before her 33rd birthday, LaTambria Smith staged to her Facebook page a rather descriptive and touching image that detailed a timeline of arguably the most challenging and tear-jerking moments of her young life.

For starters, Smith underwent surgery to have her cancer cells removed from her cervix in 2007.

DEFYING ALL ODDS

SHE’S STILL STANDING — Dallas-area businesswoman LaTambria Smith is owner of Tam’s Sweet Treats And More, a professionally run DFW-based professional baking business in which Smith specializes in preparing a variety of delectable, mouth-watering desserts.

Approximately a year later, she had a pre-eclampsia, or an emergency C-Section performed, a procedure that gave way to her child being 25 weeks prematurely and weighing just one pound, six ounces.

Two years later, doctors removed cancer cells from her cervix only to have a similar procedure performed the following year.

Then in 2012, Smith had to have another emergency C-Section performed, during which she had given birth to her baby at 23 weeks, a child whom weighed 14 ounces.

THESE CAKES ARE LIT — A business Smith established approximately three years ago, Tam’s Sweet Treats And More is widely known for providing consumers with a variety of sweets, most notably cakes, teacakes, chocolate covered sweets and its famous cupcakes.

Consequently, things would become even more somber in the life of a young woman whose faith undoubtedly was on trial unlike never before.

That’s because later that year, doctors had discovered a softball-size tumor in Smith’s stomach during the C-section. Unfortunately, Smith’s baby passed away three weeks later after a month-and-a-half stay in the NICU. Consequently, she underwent successful surgery, during which she had the tumor removed.

Then in 2015, Smith was hit with more disheartening news when she got word that she had a leaking heart valve due to high blood pressure.

ALL OCCASIONS CAKES AND TREATS — You name it and chances are Smith — this professional baking guru — will hook you up regardless of the occasion.

As if those slew of obstacles weren’t enough to try Smith’s faith, she learned some time last year that the nerves behind both of her eyes were swollen twice their normal size, in large part because doctors discovered excessive fluid around her brain.

While such a heartbreaking sequence of events would bring even the strongest of persons to tears, Smith deemed it essential to end the timeline image with four words that, despite an assortment of potentially fatal occurrences, practically explains why she’s the blessed woman for whom she is widely known.

REMEMBERING AMARI

In 2013, doctors had discovered a softball-size tumor in Smith’s stomach during the C-section.  Unfortunately, Smith’s baby passed away three weeks later after a month-and-a-half stay in the NICU. Consequently, she underwent successful surgery, during which she had the tumor removed.

“AND I’M STILL STANDING,” Smith staged to an image that was accompanied by three exclamation points.

All things considered and because of what she had to survive, Smith doesn’t shy away from the notion that while she’s yet breathing, she might as well live life to the fullest — while walking in purpose through entrepreneurship in the process.

“To me this is not only a business, but a passion,” Smith told Making Headline News.

TAM’S TEXAS TWO STEP

HER REASONS — All things considered and because of what she had to survive, Smith doesn’t shy away from the notion that while she’s yet breathing, she might as well live life to the fullest — while walking in purpose through entrepreneurship in the process. Pictured with Smith in a recent photo from the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis are her daughters: Amaiyah  Ross, 11 (left), and Mariah Ross, 10.

“I started in the kitchen with my grandmother as a child and learned as much as I could. I took all that knowledge and carried it over to my adult life. I first thought I would just do it for my girls, but the more I tried and accomplished, the more I pushed myself and here we are now.” — Dallas Entrepreneur LaTambria Smith

Talk about a dramatic comeback to ultimately start and manage a business amid a rash of agonizing setbacks.

“To have my girls watch and encourage me pushes me even more, because I know my passion and drive is a lesson for them as they grow,” Smith said while flashing her big, signature smile.

How befitting to put on display a well-deserved smile, this after having conquered and outlasted and defied arguably the greatest of odds time and time again.

Dallas’ J-Heart Ministries Founder Prophetess Jennifer Walker having a major kingdom impact through music, spreading the gospel

MEGAFEST 2017 OFFICIAL ADVANCE STORY: Dallas’ Jennifer Walker

SONGBIRD OF THE LONE STAR STATE — A native of Dallas, Jennifer Walker is widely known as Prophetess Jennifer Walker as well as longtime gospel singer whom, to her distinct credit, is leaving her mark on the Body of Christ, most notably through her immense musical talents and life-enhancing preaching.

DALLAS — At approximately 10:20 Monday night, Prophetess Jennifer Walker took to her Facebook page to tell of the goodness of Jesus and all He’s done for her.

Judging by what she posted, it was evident that her soul had cried out with a figurative hallelujah, of sorts, to her Creator.

“Hello Everyone! I give praise to God for this opportunity,” Walker wrote on her timeline before her nearly 1,100 Facebook followers. “God is amazing! Be on the lookout for my story this coming Wednesday!”

And just like that, the much-anticipated breakthrough Walker had been diligently seeking for some time was suddenly on the brink of coming to fruition.

For Walker, it is a breakthrough worth celebrating, considering she doesn’t shy away from the notion that the devil, her adversary, on several occasions was determined to convince her to commit an about face on her walk with Almighty God.

“Pain is not something that is foreign to me,” Walker said during an exclusive interview with Making Headline News this week in the publication’s featured story leading to Megafest 2017 that is taking place here June 28-July 2. “Although I’m one who always smiles, there was and is always a story behind it. For some reason, I’ve almost never been able to suffer in silence as it always been on display.”

Having suggested that a majority of the past pain she had to bear might have stemmed from what she described as “public humiliation,” particularly from the cruelty and bullying she faced amongst her peers at a young age, Walker also recalled those times she was once labeled a “trouble kid,” in part because she had become a fixture with affiliating with gangs — a trend that subsequently gave way to her being deemed a “rough” individual, although she sensed it was only an encounter whereby she was seeking a sense of direction.

ON GOD’S BATTLEFIELD — Approximately two decades removed from when she made her secular — or R & B — music debut, Walker is singing for the Lord on a permanent basis and, given how He has blessed her supernaturally, it’s safe to assume that she isn’t turning back. Not on God’s time clock.

All things considered, Walker, to her credit, ultimately found the solace and spiritual comfort she had so desperately sought for as long as she could remember. However, it took her to officially rekindle her relationship with God for that to happen.

A native of Dallas, Walker is widely known as Prophetess Jennifer Walker as well as a longtime gospel singer and songwriter whom, to her distinct credit, is leaving her mark on the Body of Christ, most notably through her immense musical talents and life-enhancing preaching.

Approximately two decades removed from when she made her secular (or R & B) music debut, Walker is singing for the Lord on a permanent basis and, given how He has blessed her supernaturally, it’s safe to assume she has no plans of turning back.

Not on God’s time clock.

PURPOSE FOR HER PAIN — Having suggested that a majority of the past pain she had to bear might have stemmed from what she described as public humiliation, particularly from the cruelty and bullying she faced amongst her peers as a young age, Walker also recalled those times she was once labeled a “trouble kid,” in part because she had become a fixture with affiliating with gangs — a trend that subsequently gave way to her being deemed a “rough” individual, although she sensed it was only an encounter whereby she was only seeking a sense of direction.

“Looking back at my life, I can see can see footage of myself from concerts when I sang R&B and Gospel beginning at 15 years old…where I would take time and speak from an inspirational standpoint to the audience in between certain songs,” Walker said. “Listening now, I realize I was preaching.”

That, by all accounts, practically sums up the “prophetess” portion of the story of this young, thriving Godly woman, a story that only keeps getting better.

“It was important to me,” Walker, the Founder and CEO of J-Heart Ministries, said of her awe-inspiring messages through her music. “I would even sign autographs with John 3:16 next to my name. I had begun to really have a desire for more in the Lord…that more was ministry. God began to give me words to share with people and always burned a desire in me to be a light.”

MEGAFEST 2017 OFFICIAL ADVANCE STORY: Featuring Dallas’ Prophetess Jennifer Walker

Today, unlike never before, it seems that Walker has only heightened her desire to be a light before a dark world through her flourishing ministry, all while living and dwelling on the larger side of God in the process.

Having been raised in a mostly Christian environment in which attending church was a customary trend, Walker’s gift for singing was instilled in her by grandmother, who has been an accomplished musician since her preteen years.

As Walker recalled, “She is also a noted powerful singer, blessing many over the years.”

In addition, Walker’s great- grandfather, Willie Morris, was a music professor whom, for years, had traveled in the South, singing at various church conventions and other services.

In a nutshell, despite the rash of past hardships and challenges about which arose to try her faith, one thing undoubtedly has been abundantly obvious all along.

That is, this talented songbird of the Lone Star state was born to sing — early and often, 37 years and counting.

“It changed my life to show me the faithfulness of God,” Walker said of the past trials that ultimately changed the overall landscape of her life. “My level of intimacy has deepened over years as that is what made it possible to survive. The Lord has shown me that nothing is wasted…not even pain. Even when I was unfaithful… He has kept His word.”

GRANNY KNOWS BEST — Having been raised in a mostly Christian environment in which attending church was a customary trend, Walker’s gift for singing was instilled in her by grandmother, who has been an accomplished musician since her preteen years.

As for how she had decided on J-Heart Ministries, well, put it this way: Only what you do for (Jesus) Christ will last.

“Even though that is my initial to my first name, it is also the same initial as Jesus,” Walker said. “It reinforces the main component to ministry, which is a heart for Jesus. My goal is to spark that same passion in others, to lead them to Christ and live victoriously.”

That, after all, is something about which her nearly 1,100 Facebook followers got a full glimpse some time after 10 o’clock Monday night.
