Diedria Pigues has been a Mid-South-area art instructor for more than 10 years.
To her distinct credit, she’s fulfilling her dream in more ways than one.
“My business allows me to use my artistic abilities to bless others,” Pigues told Making Headline News during a recent interview.
The business to which Pigues is alluding is DP Art Studio, or Diedria Pigues Art Studio, where she is owner and Art Director.
“My paintings are comprised of subjects and imagery that is both realistic and abstract,” Pigues explained.
Interesting enough, some of her best and most compelling artwork is sold on apparel and T-shirts.
Not bad for a veteran educator, who thought it essential in February 2004 (the birthing of DP Art Studio) to broaden her horizon by going above and beyond to — you’ve guessed it — fulfill her dreams in more ways than one.
“I’m a graphic designer, illustrator, and photographer as well,” Pigues said. “I do stage design and setup for school events, as well as live painting events and paint and sip parties.”
When asked what does she loves most about her uniquely progressive business, Pigues was quick to reference her lifelong passion for a craft she uses to “bless”others.
“My art is completely internally driven,” Pigues said. “Some of my best paintings are created spontaneously. I create small and very large abstract and realistic paintings. I love being able to capture the essence of my subjects with every brush stroke. I cover a very wide range of art forms, including various visual and digital arts, crafts and illustrations. I use a variety of mediums; graphite, watercolors, oils, pastels, and acrylics. My photography captures precious moments by pausing time in every shot.”
By and large, Pigues emphasized that her business caters to individuals of all ages.
“My original art pieces, as well as my products and services cater to a wide range of ages. Whether you’re looking for a stunning piece of artwork, in need of graphic design, or just simply want a photo shoot, my work is for all ages.”

A notable career that spans more 17 years — most notably as a graphic designer, 10 years as an art educator and five years as a photographer — Pigues attributes a vital portion of her success to her husband, Chris Pigues. A couple that has four “beautiful” daughters, Diedria Pigues describes her immediate family as her biggest supporters.
Moreover, several of Pigues’ paintings are on display in public places throughout the United States, she said. And, starting next year, she plans to engage in more traveling to host shows, particularly during the summer months.

“My mission is to use my creative skills and gifts to produce works to be appreciated for their beauty and unique design,” Pigues explained. “I want my work to be a blessing to others.”
All things considered, DP Art Studio is already a huge blessing, thanks in large part to the vision of a professional, thriving businesswoman who first connected with her passion nearly three decades as a young elementary school student.
“I was first inspired as a young nine-year-old girl by my elementary art teacher,” Pigues recalled. “She noticed my talent and influenced me to pursue an art career, which eventually led to me becoming an art teacher today.”
The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, unlike never before, Pigues long-awaited dream, coupled with the birthing of a vision by which God has blessed and entrusted her, is steadfastly impacting lives.
All over the United States.
How else to explain why her remarkable artwork has taken its rightful place in various public establishments across the country?
“I will forever be grateful to and motivated by mother and grandmother, who have impacted my life,” said Pigues, a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, whose work will be on display in venues in Alabama, Atlanta, Chicago, and her native homeland of Mississippi this summer.
“Every day, I strive to invoke a change in society and to change the lives of the students I teach and the customers I service through art,” Pigues continued. “I absolutely love what I do. Every painting, photograph, or design I produce gives me a since of joy and fulfillment. God put it on my heart to share the gift he has bestowed upon me. I envision myself as one of the most promising African-American female artists of the twenty-first century.”
All while fulfilling her dream in more ways than one.
