A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! (Psalm 133:1 NKJV)
LEAGUE OF ITS OWN
Longtime South Carolina businessman R. Brockington has deemed it essential to do his part to help fight the coronavirus outbreak.
“My goal is to get more mask sales,” R. Brockington told Making Headline News this week.
As R. Brockington explained, his quest to help flatten the curve amid the COVID-19 pandemic is centered largely on his hand-crafted, uniquely designed mask assembled by Caviér Clothing Company, his Florence, South Carolina business that went into full operations in 2014.
According to medical experts, masks and face covering could greatly help reduce the spread of coronavirus, something by which R. Brockington has been tracking since the global pandemic occurred.
To his credit, R. Brockington’s company has since implemented a strategic plan to assemble masks consumers will find appealing and affordable.
“Our goal is to create pieces that are not readily available in the mall or local stores,” R. Brockington said. “When the COVID-19 pandemic happened, it was only right for us to transition into mask making.”
Fortunately for R. Brockington’s Caviér Clothing Company, while the global pandemic has proved unprofitable for a number of businesses from an economic standpoint, his venture was suddenly faced with a golden opportunity to generate a satisfactory revenue, considering many states have rendered statewide ordinances, which require residents to wear masks or face coverings.
“During our transition, we’ve met with factories that were also able to provide high quantities of medical masks,” R. Brockington said. “After going over approved test results and ensuring our manufacture was on the approved CDC list, we took a gamble to provide high-quality face masks to businesses and the public.”
So far, so good for R. Brockington’s Caviér Clothing Company, which has gone to great lengths to ensure that its hand-crafted masks are meeting the needs of consumers nationwide.
“Our personal mission is to provide coverage for as many people as possible,” R. Brockington said. “With virus numbers rising and states opening under uncertain terms, we want to make sure everyone has access to great coverage. Not just great coverage, but the best possible coverage a mask can give. That’s what we offer, the best possible coverage that you can find to protect yourself against this virus and any airborne particles.”
Six years removed from having established his business, R. Brockington credits FUBU originator Daymond John for fueling his desire to start a clothing line venture that caters exclusively to the urban community.
“What he did with his clothing line, FUBU, was amazing,” R. Brockington said John’s influential impact. “He inspired me to start a clothing line. After reading his story and later seeing him on TV, I was inspired take the same the route as him. After switching over to completely focus our brand on medical products, I will say that my inspiration has come from the inability of local leadership to provide such required goods to the public.”
That, as a result, practically sums up why R. Brockington’s Caviér Clothing Company has shifted its focus largely on offering masks and face coverings to consumers amid arguably the most unprecedented era in recent memory.
“I like that we are able to help people,” said R. Brockington, whose newly-erected medical products have garnered an international presence, most notably in China and Pakistan. “We realize that everyone does not have access to masks. They especially don’t have access to the type of masks that you actually need to block airborne particle. People with auto immune complications need and want to have the right type of protection. Because the demand for masks have placed a strain on the market, N95 masks have become harder to procure. I like that we are able to provide a product to people who would otherwise not have these products available to them.”
Interestingly, it seemed that R. Brockington’s was destined to become an entrepreneur, considering since his childhood, he routinely sought ways to make money.
“I’ve been selling things since elementary school,” R. Brockington, a native Florence, said. “I was the kid in class that had candy for sale. I had extra pencils and a sharpener if you needed it as well. I remember being very young in school and I would always race to the front of the line when it was time to line up.
“Even during that time, I never wanted to be last. My competitive nature has been in me from the very start. I always knew that I wanted to run some sort of business. For me, it was all about finding the right niche at the right time. Now is the time to get into the mask business. With the world in need of masks and government officials making them mandatory in all places, the timing is perfect.”
An umbrella of Caviér Clothing Company that was spearheaded in February when word begin to surface about the global pandemic, R. Brockington doesn’t shy away from the notion that his team collectively stepped up at the ideal time to produce a product that universally has been deemed essential.
“All my life I have been selling something. For me it was just about finding the right thing for sale,” R. Brockington said. “When we switched over to selling mask in February 2020, we haven’t looked back. In the future we plan to produce different type of masks with different types of styles as they have been doing overseas for years.”
