For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11 KJV)
ADJUSTING HER CROWN
DALLAS — At the tender age of 15, Alesha Ann Lofton gave birth to her first child.
She was just a senior at the time. That was in 1995.
And, while in retrospect, Lofton appropriately deems that year as a “memorable one,” many probably sensed that for a teenage mother, it would be increasingly difficult for Lofton to pursue certain goals and ambitions.
Nevertheless, because of the divine calling on her life, God had other plans.
Consider, for instance, the array of blessings that were bestowed upon Lofton in the wake of her pregnancy.
“I was selected as one of Tom Joyner’s Thursday Morning Mom and Tom,” Lofton, during an interview this week with Making Headline News, said, recalling the slew of phone calls she fielded about her story.”
For Lofton, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, blessings would continue to pour in days later.
“Three days after that, I was selected by Sister Mary Beard on Gospel Sundays on 105.3 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to tell my story of how I had been changed,” Lofton recalls. “I was blessed with the opportunity to meet Tyler Perry and the cast of the play, I Know I’ve Been Changed. Amongst the cast was Shirley Murdock, David Peasting and the comedian, Chocolate.”
Consequently, Lofton’s life-altering story had ultimately fielded an array of local headlines, a trend that, by all accounts, changed the overall landscape of her life.
A little more than two decades removed from such a life-changing encounter, Lofton has been blessed to become a Dallas/Fort Worth serial entrepreneur, whose featured endeavor is that of an Independent Adjuster, as well as the CEO of Dream Team 3 Adjusting Academy.
Having been approved by the Texas Department of Insurance to teach the Texas All Lines Adjuster Pre-Licensing Class — which is the initial step in obtaining an adjuster’s license — Lofton’s entrepreneurial journey began in October 2017 after she had been laid off by Cigna Insurance Company.
“I worked for Cigna for 10 years when they decided to outsource my department to India,” Lofton said.
As it turned out, Cigna’s force in reduction had ultimately become a blessing in disguise for Lofton whom, to her credit, established two additional business ventures to her entrepreneurship repertoire in the wake of this global pandemic.
Fortunately for Lofton, though, her venture as an independent adjuster has been a massive game changer for the 41-year-old Texas businesswoman.
“After a natural disaster, independent adjusters are there to help PolicyHolders start the process in rebuilding their lives,” said Lofton, explaining what she loves the most about her featured endeavor. “At times, it can be emotional for me as I listen to the variety of stories of what people experienced during a hurricane, tornado, wildfire, earthquake, etc. However, in my 25 years in customer service and working with a sense of urgency, (I understand the importance of) empathy, compassion, understanding, patience, (and displaying) active listening skills. My previous claims experience and educational background have given me what I need to exceed PolicyHolders, IA Firms, and insurance carrier’s expectations.”
Interestingly, Lofton’s personal mission in her selected industry is centered largely on introducing minorities to opportunities in this field, which could change their lives financially and provide them with the resources to start a business, pay off debts, and purchase a home, etc.
She said no college education is required and the requirements to become an independent adjuster in the State of Texas include:
- You must be 18 years of age or older
- You must be a resident of Texas or approved as a non-resident by Texas
- You must have training or experience to be a competent adjuster
- You must pass the exam in this course to qualify for an adjuster license and,
- You must be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services.
Inspired by her cousin, Tabitha Gamble, to become an independent adjuster, Lofton is currently deployed during which she’s working Hurricane Iasias property claims.
“I am preparing to work the 2020 California wildfire claims and two storms that are currently brewing up at the same time: Laura and Marco.”
By and large, Lofton is grateful of the fact that she never placed by the wayside her entrepreneurial dreams — even as a teenage mom.
“I know what it’s like to live in a society that is challenging to minority men and women,” Lofton said. “It is important that I utilize the gifts and talents that God blessed me with and that I fulfill God’s purpose for my existence on this earth. I have always been an influential leader with the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve what they believe is impossible.”
Amongst the biggest reasons is because of the divine calling on her life, God had other plans — plans to prosper her and not to harm her, plans to give her hope and a future.
