Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. (Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV)
N–F–LETTING GOD USE HIM
Demeris Johnson didn’t just catch the vision in August 2019 to compose his second book to date.
To his credit, coupled with the divine calling on his life, he made it a point to steadfastly write it down and run with it.
And so it came to pass, Johnson’s highly-anticipated written work, Reparations Now And Why!: Healing America’s Racial Divide that, much to his delight, has been as good as advertised for the former NFL player.
“While watching a replay of the 2019 Judiciary hearing of H.R. 40, Representative Sylvia Garcia asked the representing clergy, ‘What would Jesus do about granting the descendants of slaves in America reparations?’” Johnson, during a recent interview with Making Headline News, said, explaining the single, most underlying reason he deemed it essential to produce his latest book. “Unfortunately, the clergymen did not have an answer. Although he had no answer, the question pierced my soul. I then sought God for an answer. The book is the result of that experience.”
Not only that, Johnson’s Reparations Now And Why!: Healing America’s Racial Divide, a 182-page published work that made its ceremonious debut on February 20, 2021, has garnered a rash of mixed reactions from his audience — as expected.

“The feedback has been both positive and negative,” Johnson, an ex-Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills wide receiver, explained. “Most black people are in support of the book. Some have challenged the practicality of the concept. Several of my white pastoral colleagues expressed their doubt but, then after reading the manuscript, had a change of heart and mind.”
In fact, Johnson vividly recalls Dr. Larry Keefauver, a bestselling author, international teacher, and one of the endorsements he uses in his latest book, who chimed in and said: “The title of Demeris’ compelling book initially shocked this Southern, white pastor. Feeling anger rise up within me, how dare he! I devoured his book, expecting to find objections to his every point. Surprise! I was persuaded, convicted, and then convinced that his biblical, historical, and heartfelt assertions must be read and acted upon by American Christians from every ethnicity. Read this. Weep…repent…and then act justly and righteously.”
Generally, from the founding fathers who sense America is a country founded on biblical morals and ethics, Johnson appropriately enlightens his readers that most Americans firmly assert to be a country overseen by godly practices, according to a detailed synopsis of his Detroit-based writer’s book at Amazon.com.
A native of Detroit who serves as a pastor at Destiny Life House Church in Buffalo, New York, Johnson subsequently mentions how America’s presidents, governors, senators, mayors, and local political leaders often end their public address or announcements with the familiar catchphrase, “May God bless America.”
“It’s time for our governing officials to live up to America’s generational professions of being a nation under God’s authority, His moral decrees, and judicial guidance,” Johnson writes in Reparations Now And Why!: Healing America’s Racial Divide. “It is time for the U.S. Congress to pass legislation and the President of the United States to sign into law a bill that will reparate Black America. It is clear, based on the biblical evidence presented in this work that this is the Avenger’s — or God’s — will and it’s time to be executed by today’s leaders of America’s Government. This book is a Call to Action for the Black Church and Black America!”
As for the divine message Johnson aspires to send to his audience through Reparations Now And Why!: Healing America’s Racial Divide, he emphasized, among other things, “First and foremost, that the Church — specifically the white evangelicals — and all Americans know that it is the will of God for the American descendants of slaves to be granted reparations.
But wait. There’s more pertinent insight to support Johnson’s argument, he acknowledged.

“Secondly, to awaken the church to the great love that God has for Black America and to stir the church to execute His economic justice agenda on their behalf,” Johnson continued. “Lastly, for the church to live up to the Psalm 82 mandate, which is to fight for the oppressed and deliver them out of the systemic oppressive structures that has produces America’s ungodly wealth disparity between black and white America.
“The underlining message is that God and the great salvation that He has given to us is by nature — reparative,” Johnson added. “The repair of the economically oppressed via a comprehensive reparations plan is so innate to God’s life that there is no biblical reason why any believer should be against American descendants of slaves receiving reparations in the form of direct payments, and all of Black America being reparated comprehensively.”
A book that is currently in infancy stages of marketing, Johnson announced that a sequel to this book is forthcoming and addresses the responsibility of the church, particularly how it ought to maintain God’s governmental order in America.
“The Gospel of the kingdom of God was specifically designed to thrive within the construct of a society,” Johnson said. “The church is the agency that is responsible for implementing His order in every area of that society.
“This book is congruent with my purpose and the message of the kingdom of God and His governmental justice,” Johnson, a journalist in his own right, continued. “God’s kingdom and it’s throne are centered in judgment and justice to establish heavenly order in the earth. Also, an element of my purpose is to empower believers to overcome poverty via our Building Wealth God’s Way brand. This book expresses the remunerative character of God. A remunerator is one that lives to make another wealthy.”
Besides Reparations Now And Why!: Healing America’s Racial Divide, Johnson authored Mission Possible: You Have Something To Do, which debuted in 2016.
