DALLAS — Not a cancellation, just a postponement.
Greater Community Church of God In Christ Senior Pastor, Bishop Matthew Brown, on Tuesday announced that his 10th Anniversary Pastor Anniversary and Episcopal Celebration Banquet has been pushed back to February 28, 2022 at 7 p.m. EDT at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel.
What has been suitably dubbed, “The Gathering,” will begin at approximately 5:45 p.m. EDT.
The event, which was originally slated to take place on October 4, was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 Delta Variant that has surfaced across the state of Georgia.
According to current data compiled by Making Headline News late Tuesday night, Georgia has reached as many as 4,612 coronavirus cases which, according to The Georgia Department of Public Health, is the highest daily number of cases since mid-February.

Also, according to an August 30 report by Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB-TV, more than half of the new COVID-19 outbreaks are happening inside Georgia schools and, in most cases, while the children aren’t requiring hospitalizations, their parents may be.
Moreover, according to an August 27 report by The Macon Telegraph, 45 percent of residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 38 percent have been fully vaccinated.
Meanwhile, Brown said the rescheduling of his highly-anticipated celebratory event comes after he consulted last week with his church’s Medical Team from Grady, Emory, and Wellstar.
Located at 406 Roswell Street NE in Marietta, Georgia, Greater Community COGIC is based in Cobb County, which has declared a State of Emergency due to a reported 500 percent surge in COVID-19 cases.

“Our young children, teenagers, and young adults are adjusting again to virtual classes to mitigate the spread of this deadly variant,” Brown told MHN via text message Tuesday night, an announcement that was echoed via social media.
“Out of an abundance of caution consistent with our COVID-19 strategy since the inception of the pandemic, and given the professional recommendation of our Medical Team, per my inquiry and in the interest of public health and wellness, we have rescheduled our celebration to Monday, February 28, 2022,” Brown wrote in Facebook post just after midday EDT Tuesday. “We’re not fearful…just being careful. While this is a disappointingly necessary precaution, we are using Godly integrity and responsibility as we thrive relationally.”
Recently consecrated as Jurisdictional Prelate of The Democratic Republic of Congo Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Brown was named Senior Pastor of Greater Community in 2011.
A native of Buffalo, New York, Brown is a former special assistant to that city’s mayor, as well as having occupied a variety of Corporate America posts, most notably Vice-President of a local development corporation, Director of Intergovernmental Relations, Commissioner of General Services, and Communications Director for the mayor of Buffalo.
