She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. (Proverbs 31:16-17 NIV)
LEADING THE CHARGE

There’s no other way to put this: these seven women of excellence are collectively making remarkably brilliant strides in their chosen profession.
To their distinctly unique credit, the Mind Matters Mental Health and Wellness Channel has emerged as a nationally-acclaimed movement, of sorts, in large part because of the valiant contributions of Karen Pender, Dr. Carolyn Stephens, Rashan M. Carter, Angela Kennedy, Sonya Jones Hughes, Arianne McLean, and Dr. LaConda Fanning, each of whom has helped their featured endeavor reap a considerable amount of success in its first full year of existence.
An empowerment mental health and wellness-based channel that customarily airs on the BHC Media Network, Mind Matters Mental Health and Wellness is a progressive, thriving team comprised of master’s level practitioners, which includes one doctoral student and one practitioner who has earned her Ph.D.
Generally, Mind Matters is widely regarded as a team of mental health professionals, advocates and coaches focused on eradicating the stigma attached to mental illness in black and brown communities.

“It is our mission to educate the masses by normalizing the conversation regarding mental illness,” Pender, Minds Matters Executive Producer, told Making Headline News during a recent interview. “We are committed to serving our communities, providing the quality service that they need. It is our hope as we continue to grow and develop so we can provide income-based pricing to uninsured and underinsured consumers.”
In essence, the Mind Matters team boasts the necessary experience to oversee the day-to-day operations of their network which, much to their delight, has proven to be arguably a massive game changer for this group of mental health professionals.

“Each of us has worked in community behavioral health at some point in our careers and, as a result of such, we understand the importance of entrepreneurship and the flexibility that it affords you,” Pender told MHN. “Entrepreneurship not only allows us to be paid what we are worth, but also allows us to expand our service base. We each have a passion for service. The show affords us the opportunity to expand our reach, impacting those that we might not others come into contact with on a daily basis.”
A credible show that caters to individuals and groups ranging mostly in ages five to 85 — “depending on the need,” Pender said — Mind Matters boasts practitioners whose primary population is children and adolescents and others who routinely work with adults.
Besides the BHC Media Network, Mind Matters airs via RoKu TV, FireTV, Amazon, and YouTube.
“In light of the pandemic, most of our events thus far have been conducted virtually,” Pender said. “But of course, the Mind Matters Mental Health and Wellness Channel reaches audiences around the world.”
Interestingly enough, Mind Matters in 2023 will be traveling across the country, during which it will spread mental health and awareness messages as an effective way to bring education, particularly what these practitioners describe as awareness and inspiration in order to serve as a catalyst for communities engaging in the mental health movement.
“Our plans are to travel to Middle Georgia, Virginia, New Jersey, New Orleans, and other (establishments) across the nation,” Pender said. “In addition to traveling as a team, we will continue to create Mind Matters special presentations for social media. We have a diverse team of practitioners with years of experience in mental health ranging from 10 years to 27 years.”
Having originally started out as an on-demand television show, Mind Matters over the past year has expanded to a full-fledged television channel on the BHC Network.
That, after all, seems to be a massive sign of things to come for these seven women of excellence, all of whom are collectively making remarkably brilliant strides in their chosen profession.
“Everyone has mental health issues and challenges,” Pender said. “Oftentimes, people don’t understand the complexities of their issues and challenges, and our mental health channel seeks to remedy that issue through education and empowerment.”
