“Every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities. And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in a way that others might not see you, simply because they’ve never seen it before. And we will applaud you every step of the way.” — Kamala Harris, Vice-President, United States of America
STEADILY DEFYING ODDS
DALLAS — The self-proclaimed “underdog” just keeps climbing the ladder to success — with God, her Helper, leading the way.
During a June 2022 interview with Making Headline News, accomplished Texas businesswoman Shayla N. Atkins spoke at length about how she relishes the proverbial underdog role.
Now we know why.
“I was the underdog. I felt less-than-adequate because I didn’t finish school the traditional way,” Atkins said at the time. “I came from extremely humble beginnings on the northside of St. Louis. To help women change the narrative for their family is why I do this and push through.”

And, because Atkins has steadfastly persevered in such a way that she’s steadily changing a generation by routinely empowering young women to become better versions of themselves, it’s safe to assume her valiant empowerment contributions haven’t merely gone unnoticed.
Much to her delight, Atkins immeasurable gifts in her chosen profession recently thrust her on a national stage when the beloved Houston-area businesswoman was one of a gallery of recipients who acquired the President Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award.
An event that took place virtually last week, Atkins will officially accept her award in person March 25, 2023, during Shawn Fair’s Leadership Experience Tour at the University of Michigan Convention Center.
In essence, the Leadership Experience Tour is a globally-acclaimed conference and platform for aspiring and current speakers to grow around the world.

The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, meanwhile, is widely regarded as one of the highest honors presented to individuals who have overcome significant obstacles to achieve impressive accomplishments, thus dedicated their lives to advocating for the most vulnerable among humanity and acted with bravery to drive change in their communities — and across the world — while blazing trails for generations to come.
For Atkins, her rise to being named a recipient for the President Lifetime Achievement Award comes amid her dedicatory service in which she invested 4,000-plus hours of community service.
Atkins is the founder and CEO of Solo 2 CEO Academy, her Houston, Texas-area high impact business coaching venture for women of color and allies, a credible endeavor that affords them the golden opportunity to grow and scale their businesses to elevate from what she describes as Solopreneurs to CEOs.
“I am honored and humbled,” Atkins said of becoming a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
The Chief Executive Officer and Global Principal DE&I Coach-sultant, Atkins has become a fixture for customarily leading executives, senior leaders, and corporations in building global DE&I strategies which, in turn, accelerate diverse workforce representation growth and develop leadership capabilities to cultivate inclusive and equitable workplace cultures.
Interestingly enough, Atkins is widely regarded as a “highly sought-after powerhouse” and “high energy speaker and author,” one who has graced an array of empowerment platforms, as well as having been featured in over 100 publications and in the homes of millions on major TV networks.
KEEP ON…KEEPIN’ ON
Also, Atkins empowerment resume is such that she is passionate about empowering women to “Lead With S.P.I.C.E.,” most notably by leveraging their authenticity as their competitive advantage.
Though Atkins acknowledged she has, in fact, heard of such an award, she admittedly never knew the purpose for it.
To her credit, she’s fully aware now, something she doesn’t merely take lightly.
REAPING A HARVEST
“I was shocked when I was asked to apply (as a recipient for the award),” Atkins told Making Headline News. “I am committed to serving my community, not for recognition as it’s what I’m called to do. Coming from very humble beginnings on the northside of St. Louis, I am on a mission to expose at risk children to new heights and horizons. No one has to be a product of their environment, and I am here to level the playing field.”
All the while this self-proclaimed “underdog” continues to climb the ladder to success — with God, her Helper, leading the way.
