To be successful, you have to be selfish, or else you never achieve. And once you get to your highest level, then you have to be unselfish. Stay reachable. Stay in touch. Don’t isolate. — Six-time NBA champion, Michael Jordan
AUGUST MADNESS
A credible Philadelphia-area youth sports organization once again is destined to use basketball as a distinctly effective vehicle, of sorts, particularly with regards to reaching goals on the court through skills, drills, and competition.
As part of Making Headline News’ 2024 Essence Music Festival advance coverage leading to the “the party with a purpose” event July 5-7 in New Orleans, Different Mindset has announced it will be hosting its 5th Annual Women’s Basketball Camp August 10 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. EST at Abington Friends School, located at 575 Washington Lane in nearby Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
Suitably known as DM5, Different Mindset’s Women’s Basketball Camp is centered in large part on helping youths to become better versions of themselves, most notably by bridging the gap between purpose and passion as a strategic, effective way to empower them in understanding “their why,” organizers for the event told Making Headline News this week.

“(The purpose of the event) is helping youths embrace the importance of being different and individuality in young athletes,” Different Mindset spokesperson Keith Hickson told MHN.
In recent years, DM5 customarily offered its annual camp as a platform to give young successful athletes a chance to tell their story.
“This year, we are celebrating five years of consistency, hard work, and devotion from our participants, parents, and staff,” Hickson said. “By making this year a community outreach day, (we’re giving) local businesses a chance to share their brands and allow family and friends to enjoy each other.”

During the five-hour camp, DM5 will host a number of notable activities for attendees, including a 3-Point Competition, the Skills and Drills Competition, Three-On-Three Tournament, Speed & Agility, Mindset Training, as well as Family & Friends Cookout.
Participants of the camp will receive a DM5 5th Annual Women’s Basketball Camp T-shirt.
Organizers for the camp are expecting a sizable number of participants this year.
“Over the years, we have earned the love and respect of the community,” Hickson told MHN. “We make it a priority to provide a fun and safe environment for our athletes and their families. The girls love the camaraderie of being around other players from other teams.”
Interestingly enough, DM5 official relishes the notion that its annual camp, by all accounts, gives way to a number of perks for youth athletes.
“In return, we have received recognition from a variety of AAU, high school, and middle school teams in the Philadelphia area,” said Hickson, a native of Philadelphia who boasts four years of coaching experience, particularly as head coach of Imhotep junior varsity team and assistant coach of the same squad.
Also, Hickson serves as head coach HP Warriors, a Philly-area AAU team that is comprised of middle and high school players.
