“I had been writing my life story for years, but I always found an excuse to put it off,” Dr. Pettway recalls. “One of those excuses was that I could only read and write at a third-grade level. However, after losing my last parent last year, a relentless fire ignited within me to pursue my passion and purpose.
“I know that my life has been spared for a reason. I should have died from the horrors of addiction, but the ancestral blood that runs through my veins comes from an extraordinarily strong Cape Verdean heritage. It became incumbent upon me to pay it forward and pave the way for others.”
