A native of Pensacola, Florida, Davis’ professional tenure as a nurse practitioner spans a decade and eight years as a sexual assault nurse examiner. She has assumed the role as a clinical sexologist for a little more than a year.
A graduate of F.L. Schlagle High School in Kansas City, Kanas, Davis earned an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from Johnson County Community College in 1992. Consequently, she acquired a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas in 2007, then earned a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Cincinnati three years later. Then in 2012, Davis garnered her Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification through the Texas Office of Attorney General.
“I spent years as a sexual assault nurse examiner, helping survivors through providing forensic exams with the hopes of justice being served,” said Davis, who served as the Northeast Division Manager over the Sexual Assault Program at Texas Health Resources during which she oversaw three hospitals and a team of nurses who served what is known as a vulnerable population with compassion, dedication and purpose.
“Upon my departure, I decided I was going to continue to serve with a valiant heart and so I’m doing this by performing post sexual assault exams at no charge,” Davis continued. “Despite all of the media attention in the last several years, sexual assault is still a subject that is swept under the carpet.”
Armed with a wealth of experience in this ever-so-competitive health care industry, Davis emphasized the importance of bringing awareness to the surrounding communities about her program, which typically provides free follow-up exams to survivors of sexual assault.
“Although, I am a referral source for two rape crisis centers in the DFW area, I believe survivors are not being cared for as they should after such a traumatic incident,” said Davis whom, besides her mother, was inspired by her husband, Shaun Davis, and daughter, Amber Burks, to erect her business venture. “My focus is to let it be known that I’m here to help and my office is a safe haven for them to come to and receive the necessary follow up care they need without suffering from undetected and untreated infections contracted from the assault.
“Access to healthcare is vital,” Davis continued. “There are marginalized populations in the DFW area who need healthcare and believe that since they don’t have insurance, they’re not deserving of care. We should be in the mode of prevention and wellness, not in the mode of sickness and treatment. Unfortunately, a lot of people are in the latter mode. People should never have to suffer in silence with an illness, and I want them to know they don’t have too.”
