Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. (Proverbs 17:28 KJV)
SHUT UP, ALREADY
Don’t get it twisted.
Lisa Dove Washington’s featured book, The Power Of Shut Up, doesn’t merely insinuate we ought to make it point to always “shut up.”
Rather, “It’s about thinking before you speak or even deciding that somethings aren’t even necessary to say,” Washington told Making Headline News this week. “You don’t have to say everything that comes to your head.”
To her credit, Washington caught the vision in October 2018 to compose a life-enhancing, spiritually gut-checking book that figures to have a massive kingdom impact for years to come.
An awe-inspiring written work that is comprised of 89 pages in length, Washington’s The Power Of Shut Up vividly reminds us that as rudely as some words are, sometimes, they need to be heard, according to a detailed introduction of this author’s book at Amazon.com.
In essence, “The Power Of Shut Up offers a different perspective on these words and shows you how to embrace the power of listening and then responding while demonstrating maturity,” said an Amazon spokesperson for Washington’s featured book. “It will cultivate new levels of authenticity and greater resilience, along with renewed peace and joy within you.”

As for the single, most underlying reason she chose to assemble such a thought-provoking book, Washington, emphasized, among other things, “I wanted to share the message about learning how, when, and sometimes if to speak on things. Words are powerful and I learned that we need to be careful on how we communicate with others.”
In a nutshell, Washington is quick to acknowledge, “Communication is key and it’s a message I think everyone needs to know. We have got to think before we speak.”
A book she began composing sometime in Fall 2018, Washington needed somewhere in the neighborhood of five months to complete her first published work which, much to her delight, has drawn an array of rave reviews.
“I have garnered great feedback from this book and people are truly doing self-checks in life,” Washington said. “It is not always easy, but after the initial sting of the title, people really get it and try it. Silence can truly be golden sometimes.”
Besides The Power Of Shut Up, Washington is the mastermind behind Unleash Your Superpower: Six Extraordinary Stories On Discovering The Power Within, her sophomore book that made its ceremonious release in October 2019. Then just recently, Washington DC native had become one of 90 co-authors to collectively assemble fellow DC author Vernessa Blackwell’s Finding Joy In the Journey: Healthy Ways to Navigate Grief 90 Day Devotional.
In this anthology, these Christian-based writers strategically engage in real talk about love, loss, grief, and healing, among other pertinent topics.
Interestingly, Washington has contributed to several other projects over the “past six years or more,” she said.
When asked in what ways her featured book is a part of the purpose for which God has created her, Washington said: “God wanted me to listen more and speak less so that I could hear Him. Sometimes, we lock into the noise around us, which keeps us from hearing God’s Voice. This book helped me and helps others to stopping talking so much so we don’t block our blessings. We need to hear God so we have to learn to shut up.”

Other books are surely forthcoming, Washington told MHN.
“Oh, yes, I plan to write many more books,” she said. “At the moment I am working to complete my children’s book, (Gigi Meet Kam: The Unyielding Love Of A Grandmother), which is part of the children’s book series (Kam Kapers) that I created to highlight the journey of myself and my handsome grandson.
“I had the amazing pleasure of being on Great Day Washington on February 13, 2020 to talk about The Power Of Shut Up and share tips on decide when it’s a good time to be quiet. I look forward to doing many more. I speak on relationships with parents and kids, communication on the job, and especially in marriage and relationships.”
So don’t get it twisted.
There’s great power we appropriately inherit when we strive to simply zip it.
