Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV)
LEAGUE OF HER OWN
For Dr. Jennifer Jones Bryant, this past year could be appropriately summed up as one that undoubtedly was filled with an array of defining moments.
As the well-respected Maryland businesswoman and philanthropist recalls, however, there were at least three notable memories stood out amongst others she embraced over the course of the past 12 months.
“I activated my advocacy and active listening skills to show empathy, compassion, and care for women around the world who were dealing with the highly contentious issues of Roe vs. Wade,” Dr. Bryant recalls. “In 2023, the impact of Roe v. Wade is still felt as it has shaped the landscape of reproductive rights in the United States and served to codify the existing status quo. Additionally, it has been cited by some as a major factor in the widening gap between public opinion on abortion, with some believing the decision to be an overreach of the Supreme Court’s authority over individual states. I continue communicating with women to know their state laws and health insurance rights and connect with your local representatives. I continue to have open conversations with my daughters.
SALUTING WOMEN WHO SHAPE OUR WORLD
“My youngest daughter left to attend college in a different state in the fall of 2022, and there were a lot of unknowns,” Dr. Bryant continued. “This was her first time being away from home, and I was concerned about her. I also felt worried and anxious about her well-being, difficulty adjusting to the change in the family dynamic, and difficulty letting go of the day-to-day connection with the child. I also had to navigate through the emotional challenges of being an empty nester, and then later in 2022, I welcomed my oldest daughter back home with open arms.
“Late last year — and all of January 2023 — I continued to work through the challenges of those who were affected by layoffs, especially in the tech space,” Dr. Bryant continued. My company, Reaching Within, An Empowerment Journey LLC, sponsored and partnered with other leadership professionals and hiring officials to hold several career acceleration panels focused on resume and interviewing tips, goal setting, and professional networking. Supplemental resources were provided. People joined from around the world, varying industries, and career levels.”

It was, by all accounts, due in large to the immeasurable global strides Dr. Bryant has made within the past year that the Mitchellville, Maryland-based empowerment extraordinaire has been named Making Headline News’ International Women’s Day Woman of the Year for 2023.
To her credit, Dr. Bryant is the first woman since Making Headline News’ inception to be named both MHN Woman of The Year and MHN International Women’s Day Woman of the Year.
An accomplished, well-respected author in her own right who was named Making Headline News Woman of The Year for 2021, Dr. Bryant garnered high praise for spearheading Step Into Leadership Greatness: Leadership Isn’t Just A Title and Step Into Leadership Greatness, Volume 2: Leaders Producing Leaders in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
“Surprised and surreal because this is a huge honor,” Dr. Bryant said after learning of her latest honor. “My initial reaction was tears of joy and surprise because I didn’t have a clue I would be one of the women to get selected, especially for the honor of International Women of the Year for 2023. I’m extremely proud and grateful for being recognized and that my influence and impact are being felt.”
All things considered, Dr. Bryant emphasized, among other things, she’s empowered to steadfastly carry out her God-manifested purpose, all the while helping enable others to become better versions of themselves.
“I would go about inspiring women to broaden their horizon and maximize their potential in a few different ways,” Dr. Bryant told MHN. “First, I would emphasize the importance of believing in their skills, gifts, and talents and work with them to develop their skills and growth opportunities. Secondly, I would highlight successful women who have overcome challenges and provide them with role models to look up to, and equip them with resources. Finally, I would use my own experience to demonstrate that anything is possible with dedication and hard work.”
BASKING IN GOD’S GLORY
Still, there’s more on the horizon for Dr. Bryant whom, much to her delight, has added yet another notable accolade to her impressive list of achievements.
“(I plan to) continue to invest in advancing women’s careers through leadership coaching, mentoring, and services, such as resume updating, interviewing, and goal setting,” Dr. Bryant said. “(And I plan to) continue to give women a voice and visibility to embrace their career journey.”
