MAKING HEADLINE NEWS SALUTE TO WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH 2025: Philadelphia’s Octavia Joy Williams making remarkably incredible strides as a 29-year-old attorney

I returned and saw under the sun that The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill. But time and chance happen to them all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11/NIV)

STANDING ON BUSINESS

HOLDIN’ IT DOWN — Philly native Octavia Joy Williams is the mastermind behind The Williams’ Synergy Group, her recently developed legal consulting firm that has become a fixture for coaching and training community members on how to achieve optimal results when they have an encounter with the legal system.

Octavia Joy Williams is a tender 29 years of age.

To her credit, she’s having the time of her life in her chosen profession as a rising attorney.

“Being an attorney is a privilege as it allows me to utilize my skills and knowledge to advocate for individuals in court and safeguard their liberty,” Williams told Making Headline News this week as part of MHN’s national media coverage in commemorating Women’s History Month March 1-31. “During my collegiate years, I made the decision to focus on advancing the rights and opportunities of black people in America.”

By all accounts, Williams is steadily having an immeasurable impact as a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based attorney who also functions as an esteemed community activist in her own right.

SALUTE TO WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH 2025

LEADING THE CHARGE — Today, Williams emphasized, her primary focus is helping other millennials maximize their potential, thus become better versions of themselves.

The Philly native is the mastermind behind The Williams’ Synergy Group, her recently developed legal consulting firm that has become a fixture for coaching and training community members on how to achieve optimal results when they have an encounter with the legal system.

Williams’ fervent rise to entrepreneurial success comes amid humble beginnings for an under-30-year-old professional who’s making her presence felt in her industry.

“I define success by the number of lives I can positively affect and by the number of people whom I can assist in being restored after an encounter with the law,” Williams told MHN. “My definition of success is based on following the traditions of our ancestors by working to empower marginalized people of our race, as well as other less fortunate people.  I believe in the old adage of, ‘Lifting as I rise.’ In addition, my measure of success is based on the number of individuals I can guide in transforming their lives. We achieve this by identifying opportunities that will improve their circumstances. I find joy in helping people, and it is a significant aspect of my life’s purpose.”

Interestingly enough, Williams has been afforded the luxury of working in various capacities in the legal system for the past eight years, most notably having served as an intern for the Honorable James DeLeon, as well as working at The Kintock Group, and a local federal halfway house.

Moreover, Williams has served as an intern for a well-respected Philadelphia public defender’s office, worked for Allegheny County Public Defender Office in nearby Pittsburgh, has sat on NAACP Criminal Justice Committee, worked for the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/ Anti Violence Network, and worked for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

EMPOWERED TO EMPOWER — Williams is steadily having an immeasurable impact as a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based attorney who also functions as an esteemed community activist in her own right.

Having served briefly as a prosecutor, Williams has been a licensed attorney since May 2024.

Interestingly enough, Williams is a 2018 graduate of Cheney University, the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in America, which was founded in 1837 in Pennsylvania.

“Throughout my time (as an undergraduate), I actively served on the student government, culminating in being elected as the Senior Class President during my final year,” said Williams whom, in 2020, enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where was ultimately elected Class President for two consecutive years.

A veteran of the United States Army, Williams served six years in the military as a Specialist before receiving an honorable discharge in May 2022.

A 2021 recipient for MLK Jr. Scholar by Pennsylvania Legal Aid, Williams in 2024 was recognized by The City of Philadelphia Police Oversight Committee as an Icon Philly Woman.

IN HER RIGHTFUL PLACE

FRONT & CENTER — “Being an attorney is a privilege as it allows me to utilize my skills and knowledge to advocate for individuals in court and safeguard their liberty,” Williams told Making Headline News this week as part of MHN’s national media coverage in commemorating Women’s History Month March 1-31. “During my collegiate years, I made the decision to focus on advancing the rights and opportunities of black people in America.”

Today, she emphasized, her primary focus is helping other millennials maximize their potential, thus become better versions of themselves.

“I am interested in mentoring young people through a diversion program to prevent them from becoming incarcerated and guide them towards successfully graduating from high school,” Williams told MHN. “Post graduation, our goal is to assist them in matriculating in college or a training program to become gainfully employed or enter a small business of their own.

“The diversion program aims to provide support and guidance to youth at risk of involvement in the criminal justice system. By offering mentorship, we can help young individuals remain on the right path and achieve their educational goals. My personal values are our integrity, trust, and loyalty. I love God and I treat people how I want to be treated.”
