MAKING HEADLINE NEWS WELCOMES JANICE HARRIS
During Janice Harris’ undergraduate days at the University of South Florida in Tampa, she strongly considered — and studied — journalism, although she had ultimately earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication.
Given the immeasurable strides she’s made as a writer in recent years, it’s safe to assume that Harris is, in some aspects, is a journalist in her own right.
That’s because Harris — even while pressing and navigating her way through arguably the darkest hours of her life — had steadfastly obeyed the voice of God by composing a book that is presently having a massive kingdom impact.
“I was recuperating from Sarcoma cancer, after having gone through chemo, two types of radiation, and a major surgery to remove the tumor,” an emotional Harris told Making Headline News this week.
Even while weathering the dreaded storm that is cancer, Harris had become engaged in a rather intriguing dialogue with her Creator, one that eventually gave way to her becoming the mastermind behind the life-changing book entitled, “Through the Fire: A Miraculous Journey.”

Harris’ “Through the Fire: A Miraculous Journey” was officially released earlier this month and, much to her delight, has already generated an assortment of five-star reviews at Amazon.com. The hard copy of Harris’ book debuted February 24. The book recently became available on Kindle, a version that is comprised of 196 pages.

A retiree of the State of Florida who is a seasoned minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Harris’ “Through the Fire: A Miraculous Journey” is highlighted large by her telling her story of what she dubs as a “survival,” or the miracle she had ultimately received.
Interestingly, she then gives inspiration to anyone dealing with what she appropriately describes as life’s most difficult trials and circumstances. In addition, Harris takes her reading audience through her turbulent journey that is comprised of an array of emotions and struggles, one that shows how she was determined to depend on her faith in God to bring her through it.
“Many people give up while facing tough situations,” said a spokesperson for Harris’ book at Amazon.com. “Others who struggle to find answers as to why they are going through become bitter and angry at God and at life itself. In this story, you will be inspired to hold on despite what you are going through.”
Fortunately for Harris, a native of Leesburg, Florida, even as she battled her dreaded disease, it seemed that God was already moving on her behalf, thus preparing for her a way of escape.
“I heard in my spirit to write my experience down in a book, and then I saw a quick picture flash before my face of what the cover should look like and the title,” said Harris, explaining the vision that was revealed to her while battling cancer. “I did not keep pictures or notes during my bout with cancer, so I had to remember everything I went through. Because it was a crucial journey, I could remember everything vividly.”
A book she essentially began composing sometime in 2012, Harris had finally finished her initial written document in February of this year.
“It is a short book, but I tried to put as many details as I could,” Harris said.
To her credit, she did just that, considering the feedback since her book’s ceremonious release have been overwhelmingly favorable.
“I have received good feedback mainly from family and friends who have read the book thus far,” Harris said. “Due to a local move and other projects going on around the time that I published my book until now, I have not done any major promotion. The few written reviews on Amazon thus far are good. I am just getting around to doing a Kindle e-book this week, and expect more traffic on the book. I am also still hoping to do a book signing in the near future, even though my book has been out since late February.”
Despite a recent relocation and other things about which Harris has had to address, what matters at this point is that her new book is finally where it belongs: on the market.
Which, as a result, means its best and brightest days are well ahead of it.
“I have always believed God has a great purpose and plan for my life,” said Harris, adding that other books are forthcoming, most notably one on poetry in memory of her mother, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 88. “I have always been a leader and an encourager. I love to help and encourage others. I do so daily whether it is simply on my Facebook page, at church from the pulpit, in the store, or anywhere else that I go. I am a witness for Jesus Christ and it is definitely a desire given by my Creator. I feel that I have also been given the gift to write, and I want to do more of that.”
While Harris labels her new book as “just a portion of my story,” amongst the things about which she deems gratifying is that God strategically handpicked her to produce such a remarkably brilliant project for such a time as now.
“When I found a small bump on my right femur around the hamstring area in December 2011, I had no idea what that would lead to,” Harris said.
What’s especially astounding about that seemingly discouraging day in December 2011 was that God all along had a miraculously blessing with her name on it.
A blessing that came wrapped up in a book that is having a massive kingdom impact.
