But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV)
GRACE TO OVERCOME
To grasp a thorough understanding of why the above Biblical passage hovers above this news story, look no further than the rash of turbulence by which Odessa Young has endured over the years.
“I’ve survived to live in spite of a pass filled with being a victim of sexual assault, physical and emotional abuse by my father and growing up in domestic violence,” Young told Making Headline News during a weekend interview.
As if that wasn’t enough turmoil to shatter the life of this devout woman of faith, Young subsequently experienced even more grief when she found her father dead in 1997, and then her grandmother’s sudden demise on Mother’s Day 1998.
Then, in what undoubtedly was a life-altering encounter on that same day, Young nearly lost her life in what she describes as a “near fatal” car accident.
All things considered…but God…

“I have learned God’s grace is sufficient to carry me through,” Young customarily says whenever she finds herself sharing of his spiritually empowering testimonies. “All my life, (God would) bring (me through) and, even in my darkest moments, God was there also.”
That Young has lived to recall an assortment of hardships and unfavorable circumstances that had emerged to challenge her faith is something by which she has become greatly inspired to share with the masses as a strategic way to enable them to exercise their faith.
A native of Sevierville, Tennessee — a rural Sevier County establishment that is comprised of roughly 14,807 residents, according to the latest United States census — Young is the mastermind behind O Survival By Grace, a book she released in May 2019.
An empowering written work that is accompanied by 89 pages, Young’s O Survival By Grace is an intriguing excerpts and poems, many of which depict her early life experiences.
“Take a walk with me through the years of my youth as I discovered the meaning of grace and survival,” Young, a South Carolina author and licensed professional counselor, writes in a detailed introduction of her featured book at Amazon.com. “May your heart be open to seek your own truth to heal and grow. It is my hope this excerpt of my life helps to paint a beautiful story of triumph and freedom from emotional bondage. There is victory on the other side of tragedy.”
Interestingly, Young needed just a few months to complete a book that made its debut on May 19, 2019.
For her valiant efforts through her immeasurable gift of writing, she has become the beneficiary of an array of favorable feedback, particularly for steadfastly exemplifying a great deal of transparency.
“There is a need to acknowledge the impact of abuse, trauma and violence, which offers a safe place for others to work through their struggles,” Young said.
Much to her delight, Young’s second published work will debut in August 2020 when she appears in an anthology for the first time.
Young is one of 90 authors who have submitted chapters in Finding Joy In the Journey: Healthy Ways to Navigate Grief 90 Day Devotional.
Longtime author Vernessa Blackwell’s 11th anthology that is comprised of 191 pages in length, these Finding Joy In the Journey co-authors have assembled to collectively engage in real talk about love, loss, grief, and healing, among other pertinent topics.
As for her solo-authored project, Young relishes the notion that O Survival By Grace has impacted and enriched people from various walks of life.
“I have received private testimonies from people who finally have the courage to admit they were abused and are not alone,” said Young, who announced that O Grace Continues — which is a sequel to O Survival by Grace — is forthcoming. “I have the privilege to work as a licensed professional counselor and work daily to offer a safe place for others to discuss how life affects their mental health and offer support to deal with trauma, abuse, and difficulty with life transitions.”
After all, who’s better qualified to assume such a commendable role in her selected profession than her?
