DRAMATIC COMEBACK FOR THE AGES — A Mid-South-area author and businesswoman, Tamera Kelly is the mastermind behind the spiritually-empowering book entitled, “Back Against The Wall.”
DALLAS — One afternoon, Tamera Kelly reached for the nearest pen and pad, sat in the middle of the living room floor, and commenced to writing.
And the rest, as they say, was history.
“I knew that I would be an author at an early age due to me writing since elementary,” Kelly told Making Headline News this week. “(As it relates to my book), it’s funny, because I didn’t have a title. I just wrote the story and prayed about the title while I was writing it.”

CHEERING HER OWN — For Kelly, losing her mother essentially served as a devastating blow to a writer whom, because of her mother’s unyielding support, eventually had to come to grips with the notion that her No. 1 cheerleader was still very much coaching and guiding her from the heavens.
An awe-inspiring written work that is comprised of 106 pages in length, Kelly’s “Back Against The Wall” appropriately pinpoints dreaded situations, during which life — as precious, yet fragile it is — is throwing you curve balls, around what this Christian-based writer describes as “the worlds and upper cuts” at the same time.
“Like seriously, it felt like you were on a roller coaster, merry-go-round and zippin’ pippin’…and you just wanted to get off the ride,” said Kelly, referring to a few of the classic rides as Memphis’ now-defunct Libertyland amusement park. “Well…child…welcome to ‘Back Against The Wall.’ ‘Back Against The Wall’ is not your typical fiction novel. It speaks about every day circumstances that we all can relate to in one way or another.”
A book that is nearing its fourth year of existence — Kelly officially made her authorship debut on December 5, 2015 — Kelly needed somewhere in the neighborhood of five years to compose a book that, to her credit, has been as good as advertised.
“I was blessed with this gift,” Kelly said. “Writing is my passion. This is my first novel and it took me awhile to complete it due to during that timeframe I was taking care of my mother, who was battling leukemia that quickly transformed into lymphoma.”
Although Kelly’s mother had ultimately died as a result of complications surrounding her illness, the Memphis-area author had finally put to wraps her novel just before her mom had expired.
All things considered, she had no choice, quite frankly, given her quest to fulfill her dream as an accomplished author is just what her mother would have wanted.
“Although my mother tried to keep her illnesses from me as long as she could, she still continued to love on and put me first,” Kelly recalled. “Every morning, my mother would wake up at 4 a.m., prepare me breakfast, then come to my room and ask me, ‘Mera, are you up writing?’”
For Kelly, losing her mother essentially served as a devastating blow to a writer whom, because of her mother’s unyielding support, eventually had to come to grips with the notion that her No. 1 cheerleader was still very much coaching and guiding her from the heavens.
“After her transition, I didn’t want to write anymore,” Kelly explained. “I decided that I wasn’t going to publish my book, nor continue my literary gift until one night I was sitting in my bed, crying and I heard a voice say, ‘Finish what your father started.’ I’ve been doing it ever since then, because this is what my parents would have wanted me to do.”
As for the divine message Kelly aspires to send to her reading audience through her first book, this writer emphasized, among other things, that whenever our backs are against the wall, what it all boils down to devising ways to simply trust the man in the mirror.
Kelly is founder and executive director of Purpose Over Popularity Youth Development Center, Incorporated, her nonprofit organization designed to create and develop outlets for youth in low-income areas so they can become thriving citizen.
“At the end of real day, you have to deal with you and your decisions,” Kelly said. “Therefore, remove your mask and trust you.”
Next up for Kelly: a second edition of “Back Against The Wall” and a written work entitled, “Children Don’t Come With Instructions.”

“I believe this prayer is looking at our clergy persons,” Dr. Deloatch explained. “I have been in the AME Church all my life, and I trusted that whatever my Pastor said was the truth. He appeared to me to be a strong man, had a direct line to God and whatever I needed, he would get my message to God. However, now that I am a Pastor, I have my own relationship with Jesus, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
“I know now that I am not perfect and my job is to introduce others to Who God is,” Dr. Deloatch said. “For clergy (men and women), we need to be real with God and not some superficial mask, preaching the Gospel. That we are human and we bring the word to all those who want to hear it, we (also) are servants and we suffer just like Jesus, Who wept for the lost. He wept for us and we are caring a burden of life and pain like others.”

REMEMBER THE NAME — To his credit, AAU basketball standout Christian Brown went into beast mode during what was a memorable AAU game between Brown’s Murfreesboro, Tennessee-area Storm squad versus Eagleville. In a game that will go down as arguably the most memorable one to date for Brown, his Storm team faced a 12-point deficit with inside of two minutes remaining. That is when spectators witnessed flashes of greatness surrounding a kid who’s nearing 6-foot as a preteen.
He’s only 12 years of age.
But for a youth basketball player, Christian Brown is a beast on the court.
To his credit, he certainly went into full beast mode during what was a memorable AAU game between Brown’s Murfreesboro, Tennessee-area Storm squad versus Eagleville.
In a game that will go down as arguably the most memorable one to date for Brown, his Storm team faced a 12-point deficit with inside of two minutes remaining.
That is when spectators witnessed flashes of greatness surrounding a kid who’s nearing 6-foot as a preteen.
Brown was the catalyst for a Storm team that stormed back in the waning moments, erasing a double-digit deficit and miraculously coming away with a 50-49 victory, having outscored the opposition, 18-3, the rest of the way.
In manufacturing 17 points in what was an AAU game for the ages, Brown managed some late heroics when he stole an in-bounds pass and was fouled as a result.
His two clutch free throws helped the Storm ease out to the final margin and, most importantly, his immeasurable display proved to be a microcosm of his resiliency for which he customarily exemplifies in close-game situations.
So remember the name, much sooner than later: Christian Brown.
Because if there’s one thing he’s proven, it’s that his best and brightest days are well ahead of him.
“I always tell him he’s destined for greatness and to always make the most of each day,” said Chelsea Brown, Christians’s mother, during interview with Making Headline News this week. “That day will be confirmation of what we speak into his life on a daily basis.”
If anyone can appropriately assess — and critique — Christian’s progress on and off the court, it’s his mother.

“Of course, I will be overjoyed to see his dreams and aspirations come to fruition,” said Chelsea Brown how special would it be if her son is fortunate to sign a National Letter of Intent to play college basketball. “But most of all, I’m thankful for the opportunity for him to continue to grow as an athlete.”
Chances are, the 5-foot-10 Christian Brown will grow — literally and figuratively — in the foreseeable future as he looks ahead to next season as one of the marquee players for Rocky Fork Middle School in Smyrna, Tennessee.
A slim 113-pounder — yet with so much growing to do and weight to put on — Christian often rotates between playing the small forward and shooting guard positions.
In addition to his attractive length for a 12-year-old, he’s proven to hold his own and make his presence felt, particularly against bigger and more experienced players, a trend that shouldn’t merely come as a surprise, considering Christian began playing competitive basketball at five years of age for the Rutherford County basketball league.
“He beat everyone down the court and played good defense,” Chelsea Brown said. “And he was the tallest kid on the court most of the time.”
The possibility exist that will surely be the case when he transitions to the prep basketball ranks, an attribute that figures to garner the attention of scouts and recruiters.
“He never ceases to amaze me,” Chelsea said her son’s continuous progress. “I love watching him exceed my expectations through growth and development. He always plays to the end.”
He sure does.
Remember that recent game against Eagleville?
His mother sure does. There’s a good chance she won’t be forgetting it, either.

“I actually witnessed him lead his team to victory with two minutes on the clock and they were down by 12,” said Chelsea in pure wonderment. “I saw it in his eyes. He reads his opponents and went into (attack mode) and came out victorious.”

“My parents always tell me that as long as I work hard, developing as a student-athlete, they will always provide an avenue for me to succeed,” said Christian, who recently was the beneficiary of the Athlete Academic Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average (he manufactured a 3.6 GPA), as well as being named Offensive Player of the Year in both football and basketball.

“My dad is always there to support me, and his presence always motivates me to play hard.”
Interestingly, although he has plenty of basketball left to play before bolting the high prep ranks, Christian doesn’t shy away from the notion that’s he’s presently auditioning for a full-ride athletic scholarship.
As far as he’s concerned, there’s no time to waste, not when he’s closing in on 6-feet in height as a preteen and making his presence felt against more experienced players.
“I would like (scouts and recruiters) to know that I am a hard worker and coachable,” said Christian, who will attend a hoops camp at Duke University over the summer. “I am a team player and have experience, playing every position on the floor. Most of all, I’m always open to learning and using skills learned from camps and other resources.”

A young, thriving Mid-South-area businessman, Jackson is not only having an immeasurable, continuous impact on the Mid-South-area entrepreneurship landscape, but with the help of his beloved companion, Monica Jackson, Tony Jackson has managed to savor yet another milestone, one that’s centered largely on — brace yourselves — producing a movie.

Interestingly, the Jacksons’ movie stems from Chapter 4 of his book entitled, “The Story Of Randolph,” which is available for purchase at Walmart.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, and Amazon.com. To his credit, Tony Jackson allows viewers access to the daily life of a Pastor, who’s struggling with being a manfirst and foremost, and then a Pastor.
Randolph, as Jackson explained during a recent interview with Making Headline News, is under a constant monitoring by people around him, considering he’s eager to do what this producers deems as “regular things,” thus become actively engaged in having fun without being bound by the “Bishop” title that he carries.
“He is a young Bishop and feels he has been bottled, because of the title, and the expectations of people.” Tony Jackson said of Bishop Randolph, who’s characterized by rising actor Mynoris Woods.

Surely, while the “The Story Of Randolph” figures to be an intriguing and informative movie, MHN deemed it essential to speak with other cast members of the Jacksons’ forthcoming project.

MHN: What production company did you partner with on this movie?
TONY JACKSON: I’m glad you asked. We went with one of the dopest film makers out of Nashville named Victoria Jones. Her company is VaJones Films, In addition to VaJones, she brought on All-Star editor/film crew member Clarence Scott of CScottRun Productions. Additionally, they flew in another bright mind from Nashville: Kevin Mumphrey of Kevin Mumphrey MumphreyProductionsLLC, who also does production and sound. And my wife, Monica R. Jackson, and myself are co-directors, and together, we makeup Jackson4CompaniesLLC. This is a dynamic team. They have been a part of a lot of major projects over the years, including the show, “Nashville.”
MHN: What do you like most about being an actress and playing the role of Kelly?
SWEETRICA BAKER: I enjoy becoming the character. I have always had an appreciation for the arts. It has always been a part of my life in one form or another. My mother always desired for me to do something in modeling, but for years, I was self-conscious about my body and even my skin, so I settled for acting classes in my youth. As I have grown older and learned to appreciate life and the various ways we live it, I have learned to embrace my curves and everything about me that makes me different from everyone else. As an actress, you get to step outside of yourself and become someone else. It is easy for me to feel what my character is feeling, but at some point I was there, too. I understand Kelly not wanting to be burned, especially by a man of the cloth. When you are attached to a messenger of God’s word, you are voluntarily exposed to other’s judgments constantly. The man, not the minister, can’t show that he is fallible. The woman attached to him seems to be held accountable for not only his public image, but her’s and everyone attached to them. I can’t image every first lady’s burden.

MHN: Mynoris Woods, or Bishop if I may ask, What do you like most about being an actor and playing the role of Randolph?
MYNORIS WOODS: It allows me to formulate and understanding for my character and to actually bring my character to life. And playing Randolph in the movie is nothing short of a blessing. It is amazing to play a role that’s so many people and so many clergy individuals have had to deal with on a daily basis, being judged just because they are a man or woman of the cloth. I love playing Randolph. It is one of the most exciting roles I’ve ever had in my life it actually reminds me of myself — LOL — but don’t tell no one.
MHN: What are amongst the age groups to whom your endeavor caters to?
MONICA JACKSON: I think we are attempting to cater to everyone, but putting a special focus on the church goers, people of faith, or anyone that puts people on pedestals knowingly or unknowingly. People in these positions are people first and their title second. They are watched so closely and are stressed a lot of times because they feel they are on that line.
MHN: In your own words, why is it imperative that you esteem and inspire others daily?
TONY JACKSON: Because life is hard. Literally every day, you have to get up and choose to be happy. Happy to me is a mindset. Very simple way I look at it. I control my feelings. If I’m happy, I’m happy, if I’m sad, I’m sad. As it relates to most things, if you say you’re going to do something, simply because you tried, you’ve succeeded. Failure is no such thing. But you’ll have to read all about that in my book, “The Fair Shot That Was Never Given.”

DESTINY STEPS — A native of West Tennessee — most notably the Jackson area that is housed in Madison County — Tamica Ross is the Founder and CEO of Lanese Empowerment, a Nashville-based company that is centered largely on inspiring and aiding individuals, particularly youths, as well as young adult men and women.
For Ross, a Mid-South-area businesswoman, she has every right to share of some favorable news that, much to her delight, is a pivotal reminder of just how much God is using her for His glory.
“This business was birthed by (my) own deep desires and determination to live my best life despite the challenges of growing up in an underprivileged environment, where I became a teenage mother at the age of 16 years old,” Ross, during a weekend interview with Making Headline News, said of her quest in establishing what has emerged as a credible endeavor.

The rest, as they say, was history, considering she did just that.

Having resided in Nashville for the past decade-and-a-half, Ross holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership and Communication from Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee.
Consequently, she earned a Master’s in Organizational Management from Nashville’s Belmont University.
As for her coaching organization, she said such inspiration arose from the wide counsel of her mother, whom she says was “strong enough” to beat a drug addiction.

“My grandmother and stepfather have always seen the very best in me,” said Ross, paying homage to others to have paved the way to her success. “My godfather, who has always been a transformational leader in my life, my godmother, who taught me how to love God with all my heart, my children, whom I am dedicated to showing how to live your best life, and some wonderful mentors and leaders in the industry such as Tony Robbins, Valerie Burton, and even Oprah (Winfrey)…as an African American successful women, who started from the bottom and now look at what she has become.”
Given the immeasurable strides Ross has made since the startup of Lanese Empowerment, it’s safe to assume her best and brightest days are well ahead of her — days that will include, among other things, the forthcoming release of her starting lineup of books.
“She is looking forward to releasing her new book series,” said a spokesperson for Ross’ organization.
All things considered, Ross is giddy in that she can finally profess she’s walking fervently in her God-ordained purpose.

“I began to think about some of the things that I have been through and others have gone through, and God began to deal with me about telling my story to help others women, not just single (women), but those who feel like they have to go all out to find a husband,” Tucker told Making Headline News this week. “You hear so much about women trying to find their Boaz when the Bible says, ‘he that finds a wife, finds a good thing and obtains favor of the Lord.’”
To her credit, Tucker has gone to great lengths through her latest book to caution women, most notably those who harbor the lofty expectation of attracting what they describe as that “perfect man” or their “Boaz,” as she appropriately singles out in her newest book.

Another major announcement, another major celebrity invite to an event that will be hosted by accomplished Mid-South-area businessman Aaron Jordan, Jr.
During an interview this week with Making Headline News, Jordan, Jr., a longtime media mogul, announced that actress, comedian, and game show host Kim Coles will be the keynote speaker during his Fourth Annual Know Your Worth Women’s Relationship Conference on October 6 at 6 p.m. CST.

Jordan, Jr. said he and Coles had initially crossed paths two years ago and eventually formed a solid friendship.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Coles, 56, is widely known for having starred as Synclaire James–Jones on the classic Fox series, Living Single, from 1993 to 1998.
Prior to joining the cast of Living Single, she made regular appearances on Fox comedy television series, In Living Color, from 1990 to 1991.
“I’m very excited,” Jordan, Jr. said of his upcoming conference. “Kim and I became great associates two years ago, which turned into a good friendship.”
Earlier this year, Jordan, Jr. hosted what was known as the Know Your Worth 2018 Rock Your Mind Tour, during which renowned actor Darrin Henson — who appeared in such shows as Stomp The Yard and Soul Food — was his featured guest.
As for his Know Your Worth Women’s Relationship Conference, Jordan, Jr. said this year’s event figures to be just as pleasurable and informative as in previous years.

“I was blessed with this gift,” Kelly said. “Writing is my passion. This is my first novel and it took me awhile to complete it due to during that timeframe I was taking care of my mother, who was battling leukemia that quickly transformed into lymphoma.”
For Kelly, losing her mother essentially served as a devastating blow to a writer whom, because of her mother’s unyielding support, eventually had to come to grips with the notion that her No. 1 cheerleader was still very much coaching and guiding her from the heavens.
